Hi All,

I am about to move house in a couple of weeks and have been discussing a new tank setup with the wife, this will be a display tank.
I would like to have a proper go at some plants, I have had a couple of half hearted attempts before that never really got going.

I do not want to start off using Co2 so I am looking at low light plants for the moment I believe.
My tank hood has 2xT8 lights at 3ft each and I will happily purchase bulbs that people think would work.

As far as stocking goes my wife wants to have Maingano's and Electric Yellows, but still looking for suggestions on other stocking.
I would like to go gravel base, and I will have a canister filter and a pump for some water flow.

What sort of plants would you suggest with these fish, and what other fish would you consider a good match.
I did think about posting this in the cichlid section and will if you think it best but my main question is around the plants.

The tank is a 6ft x 14 x 18 so nothing massive.

thanks for all your help and advice in advance.
Duncan

Vallis maybe?
If you want those fish you wouldn't be able to do a lot in the way of planted

Sagitaria subulata grows in a similar fashion to Vallis but much easier to grow
( not as prone to melting )
Some crypts would also be suitable and Anubias and java fern that you could tie onto rocks.

malawis will eat the plants, keep it simple use limestone rocks.

if set on a planted then maybe dwarf cichlids.

ambulia is an easy grow plant

I didn't have a problem with my Malawi and plants, bought a range of different plants, planted em and those that got ripped out I left out and after a while, no problem.

Cheers guys, already discussed it with the Wife, and although she wants her Maingano/E.Yellow tank first she is onboard with the idea of having a planted tank after that.
So win win all round.

Just 21 days to go to the new house biggrin.gif
