#352156 Do Blondes Really Have More Fun?

Posted by snakebite729 on 19 May 2016 - 11:49 AM

I bred fuelleborni for many years and never had an albino fry make it past about 2cm. Some also had deformed spines and as such were culled as soon as I noticed the deformity.
I've also kept albino peacocks in a male-only display tank together with many normal colored cichlids and they seemed to do quite well. Especially albino dragonbloods. They were basically exactly the same as a normal one, apart from their appearance, of course. All the albino display fish I've had have been sourced from local breeders that raise them in quite large numbers. The most recent albino fry I bought (probably around 3 years ago now) were from Linda and Colin, who now run GoTroppo Aquariums. They are on the PCS forum, but I can't remember their usernames.
Hope this little guy turns out well, will be very interesting to see what it looks like as an adult.

#351793 Setting Up A Tropheus Tank

Posted by snakebite729 on 03 May 2016 - 02:03 PM

Hi all,

I'm setting up a 5 x 1.5 x 2 for some Tropheus (and some other tankmates) and was hoping to see some of your Tropheus set ups, get some advice and also see which varieties are around. I haven't kept them before, but have heard that they are best in groups of 10 or more. Looking to grow up a group of juvies together.

Are there any local breeders/importers/LFS that have particularly good quality stock?

What are some good tank mates that are compatible? I'm thinking maybe calvus, leleupi, synodontis (anyone kept petricola successfully with them?) and pepps.

What foods have people found to be best?

Thanks in advance :)

#351719 Comments On Classifieds

Posted by snakebite729 on 02 May 2016 - 10:45 AM

Sometimes the info in the classified posts is decent info that helps people locate specific species. For example theres a wtb post just now about Ps. polit. I'd love to know if there's a local breeder or other places that regularly have them, but to know if there were any replies to the ad (which would be PMs directly to the OP), i'd have to PM him myself and then he'd have to remember to PM me back after he has heard from people or if he found some or I'd have to follow him up again later on and everyone else that is after the same info would have to do the same. It would be easier and better for the hobby and community if that info was just all in comments on that post.
Is there a way we could change the format of just the classifieds section of the forum so that comments don't actually bump the ad, and then give the OP a "bump" button that they can use after the 4 days?

#350546 Cynotilapia Sp. "hara"

Posted by snakebite729 on 18 March 2016 - 07:29 PM

Hi all,

Is anyone else in Perth keeping or breeding hara at the moment?

As they aren't terribly common, I'd like to maybe arrange some swapping or something to help keep bloodlines reasonably fresh.

I've currently got a small colony of 2m 2f and a batch of around 20 fry.

Cheers!

#350372 What Spawned In Your Tank Today???

Nice! Not a common specie this one. Have got any pics of the parents? :)

They are extremely hard to get good photos of, especially with a phone, but here's the best one I managed to get of the alpha. He's about 13cm.

#308225 Fs Mpanga Juvies

Posted by snakebite729 on 15 February 2014 - 04:21 PM

Livestock
Name: Pseudotropheus elongatus "Mpanga"
Size: 4 - 6cm
Number: 10 or 11
Sex: unknown
Price or a ballpark figure: $50 the lot or $6 each if you just want a few. I'm really looking to move these quick. Taking up much needed tank space. So moving the whole lot of them on together would be ideal.
Shipping available? no
Photos: none

Please text or call me on 0437 801 636
Thanks,
Lyndon

In the second picture it looks as though you may have (left to right) Benga, Rubescens, Electric Blue. But someone more experienced in identifying haps may be able to help you more accurately on those.

With regards to canister, a Fluval 405 would do quite nicely on this one if you wanted to save yourself some money (compared to Eheim prices).
