Hi Everyone

Hoping to buy an eHeim Classic 2217, what do people think about them?
Good, bad?
Planning to use it on my new 4 ft, would that be ok?
Cheers

I have 3 of them. Highly recommended. Should be fine for your 4ft, but all my tanks (apart from fry/grow-out) have 2 filters (canister & top-mount or canister & sponge, or 2 canisters).

I really like mine. Great filtration capacity and tons of spare parts around, not that you'll need them smile.gif

Any suggestions on a top mount?
What about eheim 2213, they look good and pretty cheap on The Reef Shop.
Thanks for your opinions

2213 prob a tad small depending on how heavy u stock the tank.

I've got a few different models of the Classic range. Also a few of the Professional range. Both are built well. IME the Pro range seem to maintain a higher flow rate for longer, where the Classics need to be cleaned more often.

Top-mount filters come with a powerhead and "filter box". Water/Debris/Fish-waste is sucked up the intake tube (similiar to canisters/hang-on filters) and is sprayed over some filter material, commonly filter-wool. Water is then returned to the aquarium via a down-ward nozzle. In my opinion, they are the best mechanical filters on the market. They don't cost much either. The ideal way to use a "top-mount" is with another filter such as a canister.

I used to buy them from Age of Aquariums but have found a local shop that sells them... give Aquotix a call and see if they have any stock left..

Re: Buying "electricals" from online shops. It's a hit & miss affair. I prefer dealing with local shops that can swap over the product if there's any issues. If you buy from an online shop (especially Over East), who's paying the freight back to them if there's faults with the products? wink.gif

I think I'll try some of the shops close by to see how cheap they are and then maybe go on the reef shop.
Would Aquotix probably be my best option?
What about the next size up, the 2215? The 2217 is just a bit out of my price range, so I may just buy a 2215 and a hang on.
Thank you all for your opinions, this is my first big fish tank so I want to try and make it run as smooth as possible from the beginning.
Cheers

Aquotix and Vebas would be your best options. I recommend both. Midland Pets is also great.

I have 4 2x2x2 aquariums all heavily stocked with malawis or tangs. I run a 2215 and a cheap powerhead in each. The water in the tanks is always healthy and the fish are breeding like rabbits. Got the Eheims from Vebas who are just as cheap as The Reef Shop but with great local service.

Looks like I will be visiting Aquotix and Vebas sometime soon.
