After looking at riggertron's diy tank build i thought how hard can it "really" be ? I already had the glass cut but have been putting it off for ages... (not wanting to mess it up).. but this morning i got myself some sellys glass laid all the pieces out took a deep breath and started to run the beads of silicon,I put theback and one side together then the other side , the the first side fell off ohmy.gif ,but after puting that side up againput the front on squeezed it al together and wrapped it like 5 times with tape and sealed the inside . (my silicon work needs a bit of practice) tomorrow i will put the bracing in and hopefully my new 3"x1.25x1.5" actually holds water !!! all in all i think it went ok but i guess ill find out in a couple of days:)

Cheers Ryan

how certain can you be that it won't fall apart in a years time and flood your house?

I'd be a bit worried about that :S

But nice job, looks good smile.gif

+1 for this. I generally leave any repairs I have done for at least a week just to be sure

If you look at the bottom of the tube it says....
QUOTE
For aquariums, allow the product to fully cure for 7 days. Prior to usage, throughly wash out with water, drain and refill before introducing fish.

Also your first post was on the 17th and you said you glued that morning (ignoring the fact that braces went on on the 18th) today is the 20th and you say it has been holding water for 2 days. I will assume that means you filled up yesterday and are counting yesterday and today as 2 days.
72 hours is 3 days, build 17th, fill 19th is 2 days.
There is no way you left it for the full 72 hours!

It is entirely up to you when you fill it up, people are just concerned.
Also I personally would have tested the tank outside...

i was about to say the same thing!

We aren't trying to have a go at you, just very worried that you will come home and there wont be any water in your tank. I did a repair job and left it for a week and it still had a leak (luckily it was outside!)

The longer you leave it the better, i know it's hard sometimes, especially if it's your first tank. This also applies to adding fish, don't add them all at once, do it gradually over a period of months and alot of the problems will be avoided. cheers Steve p.s I,ve got my fingers crossed for you, good luck.

There is a good chance it will hold if it has been full for a day, it is a small tank after all.
But next time I would recommend you wait.

Could you still smell the acetic acid when you filled it?
You should atleast wait until there is no smell anymore.

Good luck

Andrew

Nice one Ryan smile.gif

Livin on the edge, I reckon you'll be fine ey, I've built small tanks and had water in em within 48hrs, I've also repaired tanks and refilled within 6hrs!! The times set out on the tube are general and so they cover there asses, that's why the selleys brand says "for small aquariums", bostik v2 is the goods and you can get it from Seaview smile.gif

Cheers
Rigs

Just out of interest, Is this tank still holding? I have my money on that its still in action, Sellys Silicone is pretty good, and products always over estimate how much time you should wait... But in the slight chance that it didn't hold I hope you took some snap shots of the mess
