With so many brands & types of food out there on the market I just wondered what you and your fish prefer.

Which brand of food do you use ? and for which species ?

If we get enough response we could "pin" this thread

Been feeding my malawi's almost exclusively on NLS Cichlid formula for about 1.5 years, only 2 deaths which were due to being beaten up by other fish.

I have a number of peacocks, dimi comps, electric yellows, venustus, nimbo fusco, rusty cichlids and others (im hopeless with scientific names so i wont write them).

I have been happy with the food, havnt tried anything else as i havnt felt the need to. Brings out good colour and healthy fish smile.gif

I use NLS and Sera Flora primarily for all my fish. I also use Frozen foods on occasions. I have a mix of Cichlids and Catfishj from different areas.

I've added a poll (looks a bit cumbersome blink.gif ). Hopefully it'll provide some useful info.

My big community tank gets NLS in a couple of sizes, Hikari algae wafers and zucchini. Occasionally I put in broccoli or try a different brand of algae wafer.

My little community is on NLS 0.5mm almost exclusively because I am lazy.

I have just started a central american tank. These guys are on NLS and Hikari wafer. I'll be picking up hikari cichlid bio-gold for this tank too and I intend to have a crack at the freeze dried Aus black worms.

Never had any luck with Wardley food. All my fish turn their noses up at it.

I don't feed flake but I will most likely have a look at the sera flora as it seems quite highly spoken of.

It is only highly spoken of because it comes in a bucket wink.gif thats all!
Have you considered HBH Veggie 8 flake food, it has a much higher Vegetable/spirulina based content than Sera Flora does. Have a look at the ingredients on Sera Flora, I think you will find that fish meal is quite high up on the list of ingredients whereas HBH Veggie flake has a higher content of Veggie vs. fish meal

I disagree. Long experience has shown me that Sera Flora is an excellent food, even for fishes requiring a primarily vegetarian diet, and that isn't the case with Pieface's fishes.

The main argument against Sera products, is their over-the-top prices.

From a retail perspective Syd, this is the clincher when I try to convince a Flora user to use HBH Veggie 8... we started putting it in 20L buckets (compared to the 10L ones from Sera) and it sold like hot cakes over the Flora..... a cardboard box just does not cut it when you are spending over $100 for a couple of kilo of flake.... and the prices are going up again as of January.....if it is not the fuel prices, it is the Aussie dollar.... it is back the way it was a couple of years ago, but the prices still are 30% higher than then.... not the LFS fault, just the importers getting greedy....

I like the idea of making this thread a sticky, but perhaps before it happens a mod could filter down the poll to remove the options with low votes to make it easier to read.

The poll doesn't seem to be working anymore. Or just me? It would be good to bring it to people's attention after 12 months of inactivity.

Personally, I feed NLS in a variety of sizes, plus some Hikari Excel mixed in simply because I have it left over. Recently I've been adding a little white crane red enhancer to my display tank but haven't noticed any changes (most of my fish are already fully coloured though). I have a mix of Malawi haps, peacocks & mbuna and all of them love NLS (including fry)!

I am also very curious to know where NLS is manufactured? The man behind it's creation (Pablo Tepoot) has commented on this forum once and was the writter of a great article about fish nutrition (Well, I enjoyed the read anyway) found here > http://www.perthcich...showtopic=12230. I was just wondering whether the eastern states also have NLS, and countries outside of Australia?

Sorry about the late reply. NLS is made in the USA.
