Hey All,

I've got a small garden pond out the front of my house. Thought I'd chuck some pics up. Nothing flash but I like it.
So show us your garden pond.

Pygmy Perch, western minnows, swan river gobies, glass shrimp and fresh water mussels. I would like to put something a bit more exotic in there but not sure what.

^ Yum.  :P Female Bettas would be cool but I'm not sure if they'd survive winter or if you'd see em. I wonder if there are any american cichlids that would survive....

My pond is too small for redfin but I imagine they would be pretty cool in a pond.

I never see the buggers that are in there at the moment... doesnt matter though, the pond is more about the frogs and plants than the fish. It would be nice to have some interesting fish in there. though.

I have kept bettas in a 45cm deep 1200l well planted outdoor pond for 2 winters. They do survive but probably just. They do recover to breed in the warmer months.

Heres a thread on cold water American cichlids - http://www.cichlidae...topic.php?t=989

Interesting read.
Ive seen some threads here on PCS where members have kept Texas and JD's in ponds. Maybe some geo's are worth a shot.

The other thing worth mentiining about this pond is that it is entirely unfiltered other than the natural filtration offered by the plants.

To me, Koi are the only thing decent fish to put in ponds and stingrays!! both always look great from above - and no not together

It probably could work, my understanding though is Koi don't prefer heated water as rays do, and id be concerned as to wether the koi may suck the slime coat on the stingrays......

Plus the combo sounds pretty crappy. A ray pond with aros or saratogas would be a great idea otherwise.

Ill do it, if some one wants to help fund it :Rofl_3f:

Koi do fine in heated water, they adjust to almost anything.
But yeah agree,,, it would be a crappy combo, I'd say they'd be a uncomfortable combo to the human eye, a bit try hardish maybe.

I tried them once, caught out of a river in/near serpentine which was relatively fast flowing. They tasted terrible at best!
NEVER AGAIN..... haha

Thought I would put up a list of plants used in the pond so far.
- Bacopa monnieri
- Tiger canna
- Azolla
- knotted club rush
- Bulrush
- Shield pennywort
- Thalia?
- water iris
