I signed up to the Fisheries Biosecurity Charter as an individual on the hopes of finding out: http://www.fish.wa.g...nline-Form.aspx

I haven't heard anything since sigining up though. Would be interesting to know. Maybe give Fisheries a call, and ask to speak to Biosecurity. To my understanding, there isn't any that aren't allowed. Problem lies in illegal importation of shrimp. To be safe othough, I would only keep native shrimp if I were you.

to my knowledge there is no legislation in place saying your not allowed to keep shrimp.... as long as they are salt water lol :)

fresh water shrimp is anyones guess... i didnt see any legislation saying freshwater shrimp are noxious and illegal to keep... so does that mean its ok ???

my advice is dont keep them until fisheries/biosecurity/daff or who ever makes the decision on whether they are ok or not... every other state in australia is allowed to keep them except WA where its an ongoing issue... so when its cleared up and decided upon you can get your cherry shrimp etc from bayfish or AI who have them on their selling list...

now its legal to catch freshwater shrimp if you have a licence and abide to the bag limit - so whats stopping you from putting them in your tank or pond when you get home? and if they breed in your tank or pond then you have heaps of them... and what if a water bird transported them from local waterway into your pond ???

biggest issue with glass shrimp is no-one has been granted a commercial licence to collect them for sale...

ninja/chameleon shrimp are native to WA also but no collection licence has been granted in WA but just over the border in NT licences have been issued and they can collect ninja/chameleon shrimp for commercial sale... so in theory they can be collected in NT and sent to WA for commercial sale in shops as they are native to WA and have been collected legally for commercial sale...

part 2 is ninja/chameleon shrimp also survive in salt water - spend some part of their life in salty water and some in freshwater.... so if they are gathered in salt water does that make them legal ?

i dont know ??? does anybody really know the answer ???

$5 each for ninjas is a bit exxy

they're good as live food for cichlid fry, and breed like rabbits
