Looking for ideas on any cichlids that might suit a high-tech, soft water planted tank?

If possible that get along with angelfish or to replace the angelfish sometime down the track.

I've been looking at the link below guessing another of the South American ones might be possible but really no idea. Wondered if rams might work but not sure on requirements and how hardy they are.

Discus are really good in planted tanks. I have seen festive cichlids in a planted setup once.

Festivums are pretty cool, Rams, Bollivian butteflys, possibly smaller severums.

How about some of the pelvachromis sp. aka Kribensis etc.

Severums are known to feed on plants.

Thanks for the tips everyone - much appreciated! A few more than I thought to look into.

Discus would be the dream. Kribs look interesting.

I wasn't sure on rams if they need a higher temperature? My tank is about 25C or a little higher.

Temperature: 78.0 to 85.0° F (25.6 to 29.4° C)

No worries

Still appreciating all the replies.

Yeah, it's getting fairly well grown in so can take a bit of punishment but nothing too much. Given up on carpet plants as they get eaten / slow growing so mostly plants that survive well now - Java Fern, bolbitis, aponogeton, anubias, crypts, red stem plants.

Well now that I'm getting tinanti from the next cichlid shipment by Aquotix, I'll have to move my Matadi kribs in to another tank or sell them. You buy? Special plice cheap cheap

I've just ordered 5. They'll have a 6 foot by 2 foot tank to swim around in, so should be happy enough.
Gives me an excuse to set up a tank for the matadi kribs to spawn without having to worry about my syno catfish knocking off the fry

Even better, spawn the tinati, haven't seen many of them around Perth for a while.

Tempted to get some of them myself but they'd probably be too agro for my tank.

If I get another tank set up, I'll focus all my efforts on breeding them. For the time being, I'm just happy to have something different.

Many thanks - I'll look into these as well. Would be nice to keep to a rough South American theme.

Nitrates are probably 20ppm or less. Just got to control the spikes with ferts dosing and the plants will be done.
