Hey all,

Was just wondering how much L046 Zebra pleco juvies cost?

I'll make sure I'm sitting down when I read how much they are so I don't fall over in shock!

Cheers

I recall seeing Johnno selling some on plecoplanet for $700 each. And if I'm not mistaken Aquotix could get them for $800 or something off the top of my head.

Are you planning to breed them, because I personally believe everyone who has them should try to bring their numbers up

I'm sure johnno can weigh in on this tonight but you would expect them to be a difficult L to breed that's why they are priced the way they are :)

Can take 3yrs to reach maturity/breeding size . They also have much smaller hatches than most other catties .
Hence the higher price.
Mine are still very young, hopefully they will breed eventually ,but that is a few years away.
Meanwhile I will enjoy them for what they are.

as above thats the price :)

but i paid a hell of a lot more for 3 about 10 years ago... there are more expensive plecos about than 046's :)

but a few things dictate price - desirability , availabilty , breedability

few years ago 3cm fry were still selling for 1200-1500 each... have come down a lot in price but thats due to the downturn in the economy mostly... couple more people about breeding them too...  but if you want some - sometimes you can get them straight away and other times you have to wait....

def worth every penny... very enjoyable fish when you set your tank up for viewing....  if your buying a pair the female content of the pair is prob worth 80-90% of total price...

because they are agressive breeders females can quite often end up on the wrong side of life :(

whatever it is when it comes out of the tap... anywhere from 7.2 to 7.6....... plecos will adapt to different ph's as long as its done slowly over time....

Hi guys.

Are these allowed to be brought into Australia from USA?

its a bit like this... no pleco other than the L168 is allowed to be imported.... i think from memory it was 1984 when quarantine laws came into effect limiting what was allowed to be imported into australia... anything here pre 1984 is allowed to be here and there subsequent progeny is allowed... unless its declared to be a noxious fish... but in reality if fisheries is led to believe whatever fish we have in australia is a threat to our biodiversity then they will take it...

you may wish to google the allowable import fish list and have a read for yourself... :)
