Would the cichlids really cross breed even though that each male has multiple females that they have breed with in the past??

Yes, they will definitely cross breed.

#356918 New Fish Room Built Once Built Right

Jacob seems to have gone all out with his fish room. Especially with the automation side of things. Might be able to get a few tips from there.

Otherwise a Storm water pipe might be better in the sense that it isn't open like a gutter

#356534 Ehiem Gravel Vac Inspired Tank Cleaner

a length of plain hose does the same thing??

I think the idea is to do a quick clean in between the water-changes - DIY inspired by the Eheim Quick Vac Pro

#355744 Is My Fish Holding?

Posted by Spiesie on 06 October 2016 - 12:12 PM

Does seem like it, unless she has a big mouthful of food (looks like you were feeding them). But if her mouth looked full before you started feeding, then yes, she is holding.

With my fish, I would usually let nature takes it course the first few times the female holds as this gets her used to doing it. If you strip her early, she might never get the hang of it and just spit early all the time.

After that I would usually wait around the 17-20day since the spawn and then strip the female. At this stage they will most likely be free swimming and you can put them in a fry saver (in the same tank as the parents) and then when they are a bit bigger, put them in their own tank.

Google how to strip a holding cichlid. Plenty of good videos.

Last but not least. Good work on getting these guys to spawn. Definitely a species we need to see more around.

Hi All,

Most of the fish is now gone and ready to move on the rack. Details below

**3 tier Dexion pallet racking (1.6ton per level)**
- Beams were brand new when I bought them, uprights where 2nd hand but excellent condition
- Was bought ~1year ago

**Tanks**
- Two x (4x2x18) tanks -> Build by Aquotix -> less than 1 year old -> As new condition -> all lids
- Two x (32x2x18) tanks -> Build by Morley -> less than 1 year old -> As new condition -> Black silicon -> all lids

**Sump**
- All tanks are plumped into 3x18x18 sump
- From pump into tanks are all 25mm
- From tanks to sump are all 40mm
- Compartments in Sump are K1 -> Filterwool / Marine Pure -> Laguna Max-Flo 2900 Pump - 11000lph
- Laguna and media all ~1 year old

**Additional Equipment**
- ATO (Auto Top Off) -> This help keeping the sump water level and prevents sump running dry
- Otto Internal filters
- Resun LP40 -> Which runs ~3 HighFlow Sponge filters in each tank as well as air to the K1 in sump
- Heaters
- Any other bits and pieces I have laying around

**Additional Notes**
- Each tank has a 25mm bulk head in the base which allows ~50% water changes with ease by just connecting your garden hose
- The sump can be moved to the ground level and additional tanks can be installed on the bottom tier and plumbing would be easily modified (That was my plan and designed it this way, just never got to it)

All the above for: Sold

Send me a PM if interested.

#354821 Eoi: Malawi Cichlid Colonies

Posted by Spiesie on 19 August 2016 - 08:51 AM

Hi all,

With great regret, I am considering selling all my colonies and set ups. I have not made a final decision so it is only expression of interest at this stage. I am looking to see if there are any serious buyers out there willing to make an offer on the below colonies:

~10x Adult Electric Yellows (2M + rest female) (Breeding) - These are quality stock imported over east from Doug (dfishkeeper). These will be some of the best Yellows you will see in Perth

4x Aulonocara maylandi (2M+2F) (Breeding) - These were imported from Germany through Aquotix. Males are stunners!  *Gone*

8x Cynotilapia Rhoadesii (unsure of ratio) - These were imported from Germany through Aquotix. They have grown a lot and wouldn't be far off breeding

7/8x Pseudotropheus Acei "Msuli Point" (Blue with Yellow tail) (1M+ rest female at a guess) (Breeding) - Half was bought from SA breeder and other half from Aquotix - All very good quality  *Gone*

15x Placidochromis Phenochilus "Mdoka White Lips" (one dominant male, several breeding females, rest unsure and couple that are still maturing) - Couple of these were sourced from "chen" and rest was imported from over east from "markfnq" - These are breeding constantly and have fry growing and eggs in tumblers

Only looking for offers at this stage. Please PM if serious.

Thanks,

Spiesie

Jman#1 - I think the idea was to guess first what specie Buccal has ;) I think yours is Labidochromis Chisumulae or Nkali

Buccal - what a stunner. I'll start by guessing it's Copadichromis of some sort?
