G'Day all.
Been referred to this site by some mates at work when I told them of my new setup.
When I bought my house it came with an existing tank built into the bar. It's a 3m L x 700 W x 750 H 1500L tank. It has sat empty for nearly 2 years while I have been playing with many other projects including my Off-Road comp 4x4, however I finally decided that there was no time like the present to get it started and so I did.
I will be setting it up with mainly Lake Malawi Cichlids unless I get convinced otherwise. I currently have 3x Labidochromis caeruleus -Electric Yellows and 3x Metriaclima callainos -Cobolt Blues (still learing the names) all at about 40mm, I also have to help with the water and filter conditioning about 20 little blue neon tatra things and 2x Silver Sharks. I'm not expecting the neons to last when the Cichlids get bigger but they should make a few decent meals. The next fish on the list are some catfish/pleco's etc.. to help with clean up, but I'm not sure what to put in yet so no doubt you will here more from me soon.
Here is a pic of what I have so far, I haven't filled the tank completely yet as I am still adding some more limestone etc... and don't want to empty water to fit it in. just for scale my daughter is not quite 4.

Cheers

love the tank mate and just at the right height for the little one to enjoy.

what are you using to filtrate?

good luck with stocking it, you'll find plenty of bargains on this site.

Actually using a 5000Lph pond cannister with them bio balls and bio sponge and a UV thing, with a 7500Lph external pond pump (although cut back a bit to suit filter),other then that nothing yet, I will see how this handles it (should be fine) and add if I need to. The tank already had hard pipe fittings drilled so I have just used these.
Only had fish in it for about 4-5 days so it is still to prove itself, although it has been running for a couple of weeks empty with that enzyme stuff for the filter.

Cheers

Oops yeah that's right, my fat fingers and slow brain are not communicating too well by the look. (original post edited)

The setup seems to be doing well so far, everything seems happy and the water still looks sweet.

Hey mate!

Nice score ya got there with ya house. Looks nice and clean. Should be plenty of filtration!

I keep both bigger americans cichlids/saratoga/plecs. But also keep a mixed 6x2 African display tank. Love them both!

Definitely personal preference.. But I'm sure when you get hooked "like myself and many others" you'll get another tank maybe 2... and then maybe keep some bigger fish in the big one wink.gif

Cheers man...

Sam
