Hi all.

Im posting this on behalf of a friend who would like to start a turtle tank for his daughter.

What size tank will he need?

Filter options?

And any tips you could offer me as I have never kept turtles.

Thanks.

Simon.

Having not kept turtles as I don't really have much of an interest in them, here's a link to DPAW's keepers sheet.

Don't forget they will need a licence to keep reptiles but it's cheap and they can apply for a Cat 3 to start off with, no need to own a Cat 2 and upgrade.

Flat shells fair far better in captivity too over oblongs.
A lot of adequate uv lighting and not to fatty of a diet is supercritical for turtles.
Clean water as super prone to fungal infections and apart from that should be all good.
Be sure to provide them with a basking lamp over a dry area of land, preferably a shelf with a ramp glued in and Astro turf fixed to it. Therefore it doesn't take up to much area for the animals to swim and provides an ample space for turtles to bask.
They can make good pets and great display pieces, but not really an animal suitable to handling.
Kept oblongs for a few years, would like to keep the new shirt neck species on cat 4, but apparently there quite hard to get
