Ever wanted to go to Lake Malawi and see your favourite cichlids in their natural habitat? Ever wanted to go diving with Ad Konings and crew and be part of something special and rewarding. Well, PCS committee member Mattia Matarrese was part of the latest excursion to Africa in 2016 and this is Mattia's account of an adventure to Malawi.

The next meeting of the Perth Cichlid Society will be on Tuesday, September 6th. The meeting will be held at our new venue Atwell College, 201 Brenchley Drive, Atwell 6164. We will be opening doors at 7:30pm and starting at 8:00pm. Please park your cars in the car park marked, do not enter the school gates.

  • This month will be a talk from Mattia Matarrese called Malawi Nightmares. This will be a talk not to be missed and will commence at 8:00pm. Mattia recaps his recent trip to Lake Malawi and shares his findings with PCS. He will talk about diving in the lake and about what is being done to preserve the fish it holds. Mattia will discuss what is happening directly with the Stuart Grant Funds we are raising and the people trying to make a difference. Why is it Malawi Nightmares? Sometimes dreams are met with a harsh reality. Don't miss this talk!

  • A few months ago we started our regular short talk on fish husbandry and breeding standards with a target species. What to look for when breeding or buying cichlids and what to get rid of to preserve high cichlid standards in Perth. This month Brett's talk will be insane deformities in Central American cichlids

  • We will have another Fish of the Month. This month's FoTM is Ctenochromis horeikindly donated by PCS Member - Extend (Joel). We will have a bag of fish to discuss and auction off, with proceeds to Stuart Grant Fund for Cichlid Preservation. Learn about the fish and then take some home.

  • There will be an update on the clubs progress with Stuart Grant Fund for Cichlid Preservation. We have a "NEW" book for grabs, it's the last version of the "Malawi cichlids in their natural habitat - 5th edition", signed by Ad Konings that you can bid to own. Your donations and involvement is helping this great cause preserve the fish in our hobby and the wonderful rift lakes. Mattia has returned directly from Lake Malawi with Ad Konings.

  • August 2016 Photo Comp winners will be announced and prizes handed out for our lucky winners from our PCS sponsors - New Life Spectrum & Pet Magic

  • Grab some raffle tickets for our Sponsor prize table full of awesome aquarium hobby items. Heaps of aquarium related prizes prizes to win!! Don't forget 20% of raffle goes towards the Cichlid Preservation Fund.

  • Why not enter our July PCS Showtable competition. Bring a cichlid or catfish down to the meeting and you could win a $50 voucher to spend at our local sponsor stores from Pet Magic**Small tanks are available at the venue if you PM organiser 'Rovik' on our forums at least a day before you come down. Feel free to bring you own tank and air, but no other items are permitted in tank for judging.

  • The PCS Library will be open where you can borrow books, magazines and DVDs of all kinds of cichlid topics.

  • In the PCS Kitchen we will have delicious food for you to buy. We will also have hot and cold drinks. Don't forget 20% of kitchen purchases goes towards the Cichlid Preservation Fund.

Please note -

You can pay cash or we can accept MasterCard, VISA Debit, VISA Credit and PayPal.

General public are welcome to attend, so please bring your friends along.

The doors will open just on 7:30pm to start setting up. Talks will start at 8:00pm.

All are welcome. Hope to see you there Tuesday, September 6th.

Hi, do you think this will go for an hour or two or something all up? I've got a Fathers Day double booking at Girl Guides but could get there say 8.40pm. Wondering if that will still be in time to catch some talks, etc?
