Yeah most likely, haha.
If those things got loose in our water ways there'd be nothing left.
Beautiful fish though.

I do believe iv seen a breeding pair in person. Not that I saw proof of any fry but the guy seemed pretty excited by them. Had them in a big tank but still touched the front and back of the tank trying to turn. Not sure what his forum name is or was anymore, but I don't think he is on the forum due to being banned. Sorry

What would make them illegal to breed?  They are not a permitted import, but not on any noxious list.

Last one I saw for sale was when the maddington pet store closed down.  Was asking around $700 from memory, absolute bargain.

If its who I think it is he is talking crap. I was told by one of the most switched on catfish guys around that they require hormone injections. So without that there just 2 fish in a tank.

Like Bowdy says, hormone injections needed to breed in captivity confinement.
Large expansive dam like areas are needed.
If able to be bred in confines,,, then I'm sure they would be still seen around.
Value would have to be way up now.
Underground opps over east may see them in the future,,, it's up to you if you got big enough balls,,,, in a nice way said.
It would make me nervous with the crack downs.
Bio - security are the ones to call to question law,,,, they generally frown at high numbers of grey list species,, but saying one or two for personal keeping is seen as ok.
Post wtb on pleco planet and make sure your wallet is very fat,,, and feel very lucky if you get one reply.

Hormone injection... one of those things I wanna try with aquarium fish.

Just gotta decide what.

It can also be done by adding the hormone to the feed and just feeding it to the fish. Difficult to get the dose right with feeding, however less stressful to the fish.

Barra are bred by feeding the hormone, Silver Perch by injection.

RTC breeding is kept fairly quiet...

On a side note might want to have a look at the setups people have to keep them long term.  I have not seen any reach full size in an aquarium, its all tropical ponds or ply enclosures.

Rainbow trout.

They spawn from rubbing their bellies, no hormones needed :P
