#299559 Water Conditioner?

Posted by malawiman85 on 09 November 2013 - 12:58 PM

I stopped using conditioner for africans ages ago with no problems.
I dont think my natives like the chlorine/metals though so i have started using conditioner for them.
My advice buy a conditioner for ponds... way cheaper and does the same job.

#299446 My Small But Nonetheless Smashing Pond

Posted by malawiman85 on 07 November 2013 - 07:02 PM

White spot is gone! I thought my cod was a goner once i saw him in the corner motionless for about 5 or 6 hours! But he seems to have come good.
It took me a few days to begin effective treatment and im kicking myself for it but catching them was a pretty big operation.
I treated with:
- formalin/malachite green product by Aquamaster called Rapid white spot remidy and,
- trisulphur by blue planet
- heat (31 degrees) and air
- salt at 6ppt.
There has been no sign of ich for 3 days but i am continuing treatment for another 3 days.
I hope the absolute absolute barrage of treatment hasnt had to much of an ill effect on the fish... whatever its beter than dying as a result of ich.

#298859 Single Sex Tank Advantages And Disadvantages

Cons. No offspring
Pros. No offspring - depending how you look at it.

Thats the difference. The rest is about personal preference really.

#298689 Marron And Stuff

Posted by malawiman85 on 29 October 2013 - 10:51 AM

I had to empty my pond tank the other day and refill it... Well my Marron decided they didn't like shiny new fresh water and legged it... Didnt get far, my dog was all over it. Had em bailed up. All I could see from the kitchen window was the dog going ape shit at something, then I saw this little blue claw extend out of the grass towards the dog. Walked outside to see all five crawling through the lawn I chucked em back in and they have stayed put.

Was funny as hell to watch the dog freaking out though.

#298548 Is It Just Me?

Posted by malawiman85 on 28 October 2013 - 08:58 AM

The thing is for me, no one here really wants to show and discuss what they have (There are a few exceptions). A lot of what is discussed here is what is going wrong not what is working well and looks awesome.

I would love to see more of what people are doing and the species they are keeping. Get some good ideas for new projects, etc.

Some of the forums here are pretty bloody quiet considering how many forum members there are and the variety of species we all know are being kept.

There have been a few good write ups and photos in the TB section but again they are few and far between.

I think some of the newer members in the hobby would really benefit from seeing and hearing about some of the great stuff that is happening.

#298485 2 Wheeled Fish Keepers ;)

Posted by malawiman85 on 27 October 2013 - 09:14 AM

Well when I hit the culvert I busted my wrists and hands, right one was way worse than the left for some reason. I still remember every microsecond of that crash... Kinda happens in slow motion and you never forget it!

With the roundabout I pretty much ate my helmet on the first impact, fractured my eye socket and zygomatic arch (Cheek bone) then smacked the back of my head on something on the second bounce (mabe the curb).

Both accidents were entirely my fault!

#298441 White Spot & Treatment Options

Posted by malawiman85 on 26 October 2013 - 06:51 PM

Oh and one more thing the whitespot first appeared a few days after I bought a few fish from City Farmers, the first and last time I will ever buy fish there.

Yep... havent had a good experience buying from Chains as I have stated elsewhere recently... Perhaps unlucky... Dunno, doubt it.

Awesome to hear your White Spot is gone! Good on you too for following up here with what eventually worked for you... Not many people bother with the feedback.

#298325 Beginner Learning The Hard Way

Posted by malawiman85 on 25 October 2013 - 05:55 AM

Also for what its worth my experience buying fish from city farmers isnt great. I have bought fish from them on three occasions and each time had at least one die within 24 hours... Never had this issue with fish from Vebas or Aquotix... Not slagging them off, its just my experience.

#298297 My Marine Tank

Posted by malawiman85 on 24 October 2013 - 07:08 PM

Hows the tank going Holmsy?
I have launched operation: hoodwink.
This is where i convince my wife something not to extreme is a good idea (like a small marine setup in my lounge room) then slowly change the scope of the project once "we" have committed too much time and effort to not follow it through.
I have started planning my predator tank, though at the moment poor wifey thinks im just considering a few common 'ol ocellaris for the kids.

There not referred to as shrimp any more, there called MUMS THE WORD.

They are known hence forth as MTW's. This i believe should be endorsed by the PCS Committee.
