Hi All

I've just joined this board, so I hope this topic hasn't been posted elsewhere.

I believe the PCS auction is in a month or two, so I wish to start making a wish list for some fishes.

I currently have a tank with Calvus, Frontosa, Moorii, Elec Yellows, Clown Loaches and a couple of Bristle nose. Hopefully sometime to have Cyprichromis Leptosoma. A fairly peaceful / low aggression tank with a good colour mixture.

I am setting up a tank for my son 4 x 2 x 18inch deep. I’m not sure what species I should mix into it. I though of saltwater, but believe to much hassle/work to keep. Since I already have a low aggressive species tank, maybe going to a medium level. I am thinking Elec Blue, Pseudotropheus. I’m not sure what else could go into this tank? I’m hoping for a good color mix again. I don’t want to end up with a tank with fish too scared to come out. What would be a good combination to try?

Hi and welcome to the forum..

Perhaps it might be an idea to separate your tanganyikans / malawis into the new tank.. The moori .. are they tropheus or cyrtocara? Either way they may become a bit 'active' for the quieter tanganyikans in time...

If you are after a pseudotropheus give P. saulosi a try. I believe this is one of the smallest pseudos and certainly the most peaceful I've kept..

You can try a few different non-mbuna utaka eg. open water swimmers such as C. borleyi, Protomelas species.. etc.. There are a few newly available species of fish out that may be worth a try.. Labidochromis hongi is quite nice, and much cheaper nowadays... Pseudo. barlowi, acei, daktari, and maybe even aurora are much rarer ones that have become available..

Aulonocara (peacocks) are a peaceful addition usually.. electric blues like you said are nice too...

For tanganyikans .. they have less colour but more personality lol.. If you design the layout of the tank well you can have tanganyikans each holding their own niche and raising their own colonies...

Good luck and I'm sure you will find heaps of things to buy at the auction! :)

Apparently I have heard that auroras were available some months ago but at $200 a piece were scoffed at by the shops.
Hopefully someone did buy though and with luck should see young soon.;)

Thanks for the replies. :good

With the tank, already put a deposit on one, doh!. But if you have some filtration / lights, heaters, etc I haven’t organized the style yet. Thinking maybe 2 @ 30 x 12 x 12 sponges in the corners with a 1200l/h powerhead on each, something easy to maintain? Are the Aqua Via product range any good, the price is certainly right? Are the internal trickle filter a good idea? I’ve4 seen some with the blue mat used instead of bio balls.

The moorii are the cyrtocara. I’ll keep an eye on them if they hassle the tanganykans. Would they be ok with pseudotropheus? I’ve actually been thinking Peacocks for my main tank, hopefully a Ngara. Just haven’t seen any in the shops.

Regards

Kev

C.Moorrii are very peacefull .. Psuedo's can be agressive depending on what you get . Ps.Saulosi are veyr nice fish and aren't very agrressive .. How about a Aquaclear Hang on FIlter ? they arent to expensive plus you can order them off the net so might make it even cheaper ..

I'll leave the Moorii and see how they go as they get older. What shop is it in Midland? MMM not sure about what is over that way, I'm too far West to know the area. Maybe worth a drive.
