is rust a danger to goldfish?

as the title says... new gutters put in today to replace rusty ones, but the guys left about 5 litres of fine partic rust in my pond. will the fish be ok, i have done a 50% water change. the pond is about 1500ltrs

Hi Andrew,

Rust is usually harmless, unless water pH is really low. Under very acid conditions, enough could dissolve to cause iron toxicity, but this scenario is unlikely in a well kept outdoor pond.
