I get the story from my wife, the kids were at the barber shop and my oldest (7) was asked what pets he has.

The answer was Jack our dog and some fish....

The barber said I have A gold fish what colour are yours...

My lad said well at home there is some orangey red ones, maybe 30 of them, and some black ones, about thirty of them too.  At dads work there is a couple hundred different fish wiht some massive ones that eat the smaller and crappier of the fish, in his office 50 or so babies.  Barber stops cutting and looks at my lad like there is a problem there...

No Chris, you don't have a problem, it's everyone else with the problem.

All my classmates and friends in highschool thought I was a weirdo for being obsessed with aquarium fish at the time. I'm no longer friends with any of them. I don't need that negativity in my life ;) :P

I LOVE it.  Thanks for sharing  :D

I was sitting with a group of kids the other day.  They were playing the "Truth and Lies" game where you provide three things about yourself and the others have to guess which one is a lie.  My "facts" were that I'd been scuba diving in Africa, that I had 70 tanks of fish, and that we had three dogs.  Surely the lie would be OBVIOUS to any sane individual?????  I mean, who in their right mind would keep three dogs??? ^_^

You'll like this one Chris. I was at the chiro's and he asked me what I did on the weekend.....

Me: "Well, I spent a few hours doing water changes, then I rescaped my large planted tank, and then went to Aquotix, Pet Magic, and Vebas. Oh, and did I tell you about the fry?"

Chiro: "What do you mean fry"

Me: "Fry is baby fish......." and then wifey rolls her eyes and says "stupid fish tank nerd" ha ha

at least I'm not on meth right?

Between the fish, motorbikes, reptiles and everything else I wouldn't be able to afford drugs :P

That reminds me I will need that "Rainbowfish Lover Parking Only" sign at some point down the track

I think that's the definition of a hobby - something that someone finds fun and bores the pants off everyone else when a captive audience is found (sometimes I dream of slide projector nights but wish to stay in the house).

yes you can eat them if you want if your that hungry i guess but some are very small and very expensive... not sure on the weight of a zebra pleco but it'd be in the vicinity of $100,000 per kilo to eat...

so are they worth more than goldfish ?

yes and no... price varies from $1 per fish up to $1500 per fish... thats for fry 3-4cm... some adult fish go for heaps more...

In our clinic we are more likely to make you wait while the water is being switched off finishing up a water change or discussing with a kid as to if our plecco is alive or dead :)
