sulphur crested (otopharynx lithobates) ? you be the judge.

through work i had ordered a sulphur crest, an when it came out to me i received this.



could you please help me. is this just a juvenlie one that will grow into color (it is a good 9-10cm though) , or have i been stinged.

on the other hand i bought some beautiful pseudotropheus demasoni toady biggrin.gif

on the same order i got the "sulphur crests".
i did get about 5-6 jacobfreibergi peacocks. you recon thats what it is?
the noobs just sent me 2 extra jacobfreibergi peacocks instead of the sulphur crest

I agree, looks like it could turn out to be a maleri gold or something similar? I have no idea when it comes to peacocks. Definetley not a Otopharynx lithobate though.

Maybe as a suggestion make sure you use the scientific name next time your order so you dont get the wrong fish!
Common names can be tricky and leave lots of room for error.

Not a lithobates at all, Auloncara for sure, maybe Baenschi 'benga' or Marleri 'gold' most probably the former. When you order 'Sulphur Crest' you could also get Aulonocara maylandi as well as Otopharynx lithobates, suggest you stick with the generic names and locality or colour variant to ensure you get the right fish every time. Suggest you get the book 'Cichlids of Lake Malawi' 3rd edition by cichlid press, has most Malawis with localities in it. Or Google it (though not as accurate).
