Man that background! Wow! Top job mate!!!! Looks better than any I have seen for sale.

I have just purchased a new big tank. What width is the background you have created man? How far does it come out from the back of the tank?

Loving looking at this tank

Back ground is amazing. Those that went to willems (apologise if misspelt) talk might remember him saying cichlids pick at the foam and it then turns to crap with poly all floating on top and colour missing from your wall. Does anyone know how it would be possible to have this back ground with cichlids?

bowdy had that very problem with cichlids and a foam background

best way to do cichlids and a background would be no foam 3d background I suppose

First time seeing this thread, absolutely blown away! If it wasnt for the fact I've seen the pics of you making it I'd be having trouble believing that background is fake!

Really keen to see how the tank has matured :D

Hi guys, its been a while since I've browsed the board.

Tank is going sweet. A few chips here and there from the large clown fish!

Will post a pic in a minute. bad phone pic. will try to get a better one this weekend.

Had a little success with a few plants. The clown loaches love to dig new ones up. And one LED flood light has faulted on me again.

Its been a long time since my last visit but not much had changed in the tank until last night. It was all going very well until about 3am the tank sprung a leak in the back right corner!

Not sure what is going to happen now. The fish need to be re-homed and the damage assessed. This will probably destroy the background and as the tank is fairly old its probably the death of it...   :(

The cost of glass is a shocker I would strip it down and remove all the silicon, then just put back together   such a shame to ditch the whole lot :)

Hope there wasn't too much damage to your house from the leak :(

Very little damage, only dropped about a bucket of water on the floor.

With the tank half full the leak has stopped. It might be loose plumbing. Perplexing.

Its not the plumbing or the overflow, just refilled slowly and water started dripping again before the water level had reached either the overflow box or inlet pipes.

Anyone here keep reptiles and wants a really big tank?  :brickwall:

I wouldn't give up on it just yet, if what you are saying is correct the bottom is good (not cracked or seal leaking) so that's good. What i'd do is remove the fish, add some dye (food colouring) and try to find the level that it's leaking at. Then cut out the seal a couple of inches, top and bottom of the leak and reseal, i'd also silicon black aluminium angle down the outer edges on all four sides for extra sealing. If it stopped leaking when half empty and started again before it reached the black rubber seals of the inlet and out lets then it can only be leaking from the side seal of the glass. good luck, would hate to see your hard work go down the drain. This is why i always ask for extra beading all around when getting a tank built top, bottom and up the sides. It makes for a stronger tank and give you a second seal on all joins. cheers steve

The tank does have extra beading across the bottom, so 24mm of total join. The water appears under the polystyrene on the right end of the tank and also down the wall at the right back of the tank. There is no water detectable on any edge except the back bottom edge as I cant get to it as of yet.

Once i get the tank away from the wall all will be revealed. Its been under a bit of stress as there was a wavemaker on the tank for some time when it was salty. When that thing was working there was a 5cm wave rolling down the tank! Was mint watching the fish swim with/against the current.

Heres a pic from 2007, check the diff in water levels at each end. I was sure there was a video of this somewhere but can't find it.

The bottom has been done correctly then, the sides should have been beaded as well. It all points to the side seal leaking to me (IMO fixable)

I know it was done correctly as I built the thing  :)

If it is fixable I will do it. My wife is already making redecorating plans
