Hi guys,

With this ezboard there is an easy way to post up your pictures within the topic itself. When you are creating your post, to the left of where you are typing there are a bunch of buttons. One of these buttons is labelled 'image'. Clicking on this will allow you to type in the URL or address of your image on the web. Obviously to do this your image must already be on the web somewhere, usually your personal webspace that comes with your Internet Service account. If you haven't yet got your photos on the web, the instructions below may help a little. If you can't figure it out, you can also email me at mtchye@iinet.net.au and I will post them up for you.

Vince's guide to getting pics up on the net and on this forum:

Getting pics the right size:
Now lets start with the pics themselves. They will be a .jpg file in most cases. If you have had them taken with a digital camera, they will usually be quite large in terms of size. This is bad if you want to display them on the web, cos it takes ppl with slow connections a long time, and also you won't be able to see the whole picture on the screen (depending on screen resolution of course).

Anyway first I would resize the picture so that it's width is around 600 pixels wide. The height doesn't really matter so lets keep the aspect ratios as they were originally and just resize the width so that ppl can see the whole pic.

What program can you use to do this? Some ppl have adobe photoshop, or macromedia fireworks or some other graphics editing program. If you dont have one, a nice and simple free one is lview. Now that this is done, you will find that the file size is also a lot smaller..

Getting my pics on the net:
Now, next step is to upload your pics to some webspace. The best place to do so is with the included webspace with your internet account. For example, say you are with iinet for your internet, and they include 10 megabytes of space for you to put whatever you want on the web. Your ISP (internet service provider) will have instructions on how to upload stuff onto the webspace. This will be different depending on which ISP you are with, but basically you will need to use an FTP program - which basically copies the pic files from your computer on to the web.

If you don't have free webspace, you can use free web servers like geocities. But they don't support hotlinking so you will not be able to display the pictures on other sites, you can only place links to them.

Apparently you can use the auction part of picturetrail (another free web server) and it supports hotlinking. Try it yourself because i haven't used it..

As a last resort, you can email your pictures to me and I'll put them up for you..

Get ur pics up on the forums:
To get your pics up on the forum, just add a new post or reply to an existing one. On the left of where you type in your comments, there is a button labelled 'image'. Just click on that, and then put in the URL (web address) of the picture in question. This will be usually members.iinet.net.au/~you...icture.jpg of course this will vary depending on your ISP.

And there you go.. HTH

Hey there,

A great host for your photos is it is free.

If you upload pics (from your puter) onto the site, then click more options (on the left), then click URLS for auctions.. it gives you the photo with it's own url under it... to put it in your post... do what mtchye said... click image on the left of this board... and then cut and paste the link you are given at Picturetrail!! IT is dead easy!!

Oh, on the free membership, you can only upload 3 pics at a time... but if you pay... it is unlimited!! Having said that.. they way around it, is to also cut and paste the link into a word doc. so that you have it, incase you ever need it again!

Take care,
Meagan
