Hi all,

my peppermints have bred producing a good batch but half are normal cute little black with big white spots and white tips on tails, but half of them are albino....i didnt think peppermints had albino's?

any tips on what they are? there are only 2 types of fish in the tank, a royal whiptail pair and 3 peppermints. 2 males 1 females.
will post up a pic soon, not a real good one but all i can get for now.
Cheers

Albinoism isn't necessarily hybridisation though....

Keen to see some pics. We had someone produce an albino Synodontis (cuckoo cat from memory) a couple of years back. Not sure if it survived long enough (thread went stagnant) to be bred from though.

Like the first two said, I can't wait to see pics if any. This is unheard of for peps, but very possible none the least.

Anything is possible. I have seen the adult peps that these possible albino's have come from and they are 100% peppies. Be cool if their are some albino's produced.

Brad - When are you back from sea? Tried calling you, must be out of range still.

I'd be suspicous of their blood line, the odd one fair enough but throwing half sounds like something else has been mixed into their blood line some where along the line.

Pics or it didn't happen wink.gif

I'm not sure that going from a black fish with white spots to a whiteish fish with no visible spots would be an improvement aesthetically, but for rarity value it's pretty cool even though albinos totally skeeve me out...

I'm pretty certain these peppermints came from johno. They look exactly like your standard peps. I don't think that genetically you could get 1 or 2 albinos in a batch from two normal parents; it is my understanding that you would get roughly 1/4 albino.

That is true Dazza. Was sad that the albino cuckoo's didn't take.

I had albino saulosi years ago, that sadly have now also disappeared.

With albino outcomes, genetic wise, you can get a percentage or one or two. It's very complicated to explain.
I myself have a rough understanding of it. But outcome probalities vary greatly in all aspects of genetics.
Just for the chance of albino is so limited, once a understanding for it, it actually would seem its almost impossible to come in line for a albino outcome, but it does.

Hypanheaven is a marine engineer. So he works off shore, he is out at sea for the next couple weeks. So his reception and internet availability goes in and out.
