What is with the CF 1200???

I asked my OH to pick me up an Aqua One CF 1200 from LFS but it says on the box it is an Aquis 1200 like below:

http://www.aquaone.c...er_external.php

Thing is, it is the same size as the old CF 1200 but says it is only suitable for tanks up to 300 litres where as the old CF 1200 said it is suitable for tanks up to 500 litres?????

http://www.theaquari.....lter 1200L/Hr

Any ideas?? Hoping this will be enough filtration for my 4x2 cichlid tank…
:?

Hey Nads,

Why not go the little bit extra and go Eheim ?

I have 4 Eheim 2217 canisters that can do up to a 600L tank and Pacco @ Veba`s is selling these on special atm for $250

These canisters will run for many years.

Cheers
Craig

Yeah thats strange. I went on the website where we bought our last 3 CF1200's from and couldn't find an Aquis 1200, only a Aquis 1250.

Aquis 1250

When you compare the Aquis 1250 to the CF1200
it makes you wonder why such a difference?

The CF1200

Rated for tanks up to 500 litres
Flow 1200 lph
Power : 22 watt
7.5 litre filter volume

The Aquis 1250

For aquariums up to 250 L
Max Flow - 850 LPH
Power - 32W
Filter Volume - 12L

And a $25.oo difference, with the better (read bigger) cannister being the cheaper one!

If you're going off the Aquis range, you'd be looking at the Aquis 2250 rated for tanks up to 350l and that comes in around $410....

.....at which point, I'd go the Eheim as Craig suggested!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

I have 2 malawi tanks that are 5 x 2 x 18`s ( 425 lts slightly under your 450 lts )

I run these with one Eheim 2217 on each tank and also have a powerhead with a sponge on it in both tanks also as that little bit extra oomf for water movement. One power head is 700lt p/h and the other is 1100lt p/h

This combination works really well for me and will still be cheaper than that Aquis 2250 that Fishgal pointed out !

Cheers biggrin.gif

Agreed Craig!

We run a CF1200 on our 4x2x2 with an internal powerhead with a sponge attached...all up the filtration cost us around $160 and it does it's job brilliantly....

....the filtration on my 6x2x2 only cost me around $290 (and that includes 2 cannisters!) and thats overfiltered... alot cheaper than the $410 for the Aquis 2250, which wouldn't be big enough IMO...

.....as with most things, the key is to shop around and look at a few different methods of filtration...the most expensive filter/filtration is not always the right way

I wasn't happy when I found this out awhile back. I bought a CF1200 when I got my first tank in WA, expecting it to push around 1200LPH, But it does no where near this and to my surprise on the side of the box it has a rating of 750LPH 8O , SO when I asked the rep about the LPH change he said oh yea, That's why they have changed it to Aquis...

Ive found the bigger AquaOne canister head seize on the canister, thus making it very difficult to get the head off.

But they are a cheap filter $205 = CF1200, compared to the Eheim range. BUT you cant beat Eheim for quality...

1: Eheim
2: Fluval
3: AquaOne

That's how I see the quality scale.

In a previous discussion i think from Docfish also , that with the cheaper canisters and media the litres per hour doesnt mean much say if a cheaper brand of canister turns over e.g 1200 lts p/h but the water has to pass through 3 times for the bacteria to remove the wastes where as a eheim will turn over 600 lt`s per hour and the water only needs to pass through once for the wastes to be removed effectively!!

This is a bit off topic, but I have to point out that many people have peculiar notions about what happens inside a cannister filter, and why it happens.
In all probability, the rate of detoxification of wastes has more to do with the nature of the filter media than turnover rates, but the matter is considerably more complex than can be explained simply by the brand of filter.
The choice is really about price. longevity and efficiency: ie watts per volume pumped (don't ignore this latter as the cost... about $1.00/year/watt... can become significant).

Syd.

Thanks smile.gif

LFS was selling the Aqua One CF 1200 for $300 8O and seeing as they have changed their recommended aquarium volumes on their filters I would need to buy two for my size tank and I did not really want to buy one online either, even though with postage they are $150, but if something was wrong with them, it would be a pita to send them back and sort it etc.

Soooo I thought I may as well spend a bit extra and get an Eheim, one that I don't have to suck on the hoses to prime and they were a great price at Veba's biggrin.gif It was on special and $245 cheaper than what they are at all the other fish stores... bargain biggrin.gif

I paid $130 including postage for each of my CF1200's, I have 3 that I bought online, they've never missed a beat but I do understand peoples concerns re warranty issues....

Lol I had to laugh when I read that laugh.gif I've never sucked on a hose yet to prime a filter...perhaps I've just been lucky? lol

hey guys i actually picked up 2 aquis 1200s today for a good price but while i was there at my LFS the rep was there too adn i asked him why still call it the 1200series when the litre rate is diff. he said the following" the CF and aquis 1200's have the same motor. the rating for aquis is due to the CF being borderline on its rating and the aquis taking into account bacteria build up, but they are essentially the same filter" apparently anyways.. im happy with my two buzz boxes

Given Nads is in Rockingham I'm guessing I know which LFS he is talking about. He has now dropped his price to $200 each, but given my experience with CF1200s over the last two days I think I'd be going for the Eheim too biggrin.gif
