Im thinking of going out and buying a 6ft HETO light with twin globes for my tank.

Just wanted to hear peoples opinions on here are they any good, or should I be looking at something else thats better around the same price range.

Please give reason as to why or why not you would by one for your own tank,

thanks.

G'day CICH-BRO,

I have a very high opinion of these lights, and would recommend them, good choice.

Reasons: They are slimline, look great, have protective cover(plastic sheet) for globes, have a good length cord, and have performed well for me with no issues for some years now.

Thinking points: What purpose do you wish to use it for, ie: Marine , Planted , etc -- You may find other alternatives to give better results. I don't do Marine(well only prawns) or plants(on a big scale)( most of my fish will destroy them) So maybe someone else will be able to give reasons why you may get better results with different lights for these scenerios.

cheers
Mudjimba

Yeah I forgot to mention what I type of tank Il be using it on, Its an Oscar/American Cichlid tank with no live plants (obviously with Oscars)

so Im really just after a basic white light with a decent quality reflector.

The reason I considered getting the twin globe unit as opposed to the cheaper single globe that is also avaliable from HETO is I read that for tanks over 24inches high,
sometimes a single globe may not be as effective in lighting the tank for display.
My tank is 72x24x30

I dont need any special lighting (actinic, metal halide etc) and I already have a separate moonlight system in place aswell.

Thanks for the reply.

I have been selling Heto units for a years at Aquotix, ever since they have been available in Australia.... never had a warranty claim... if there ever is a problem, with these or other units we carry, we fix them on site, often while you wait....

I've been using Heto's for years (must be atleast 6 years now) and NEVER had an issue with them. They've always performed faultlessly for me. The stock standard tubes are alright but nothing too special. Though with that said if you're expecting earth shattering results from a stock standard free tube then you need a heavy dose of reality. If you want a tube that turns on and lights up then it does that. If you're planning on seriously getting into plants (which your not) then you'd best be swapping out those tubes.

The Difference....
Hetos are available in T8 (Standard Fluro) and T5HO tubes.

Haiyang are available in T5 LO and T5HO....

Having personally gone from Heto T8 fluro to Haiyang T5LO then to Heto T5H0 is like comparing a Statesman to a Capri and a Commodore Berlina wink.gif
Those units have been on different tanks and the stocking of those tanks has reflected the light choice wink.gif

Price.... give Aquotix a call tomorrow smile.gif

Kev.
I run a 4ft Heto Quad T5HO on my planted tank, great units, a million times better then the LO as you'd expect.

Thanks for the feedback. I purchased the light unit online from Age of Aquariums.

Saj I know what you mean when you say the std free tubes are just 'alright'. I had the same thing with my 4ft Aqua One reflector, the light was almost like a light pink and didnt look good at all, I put in a 'daylight' tube and it gives off a nice white light and I have had no problems with algae growth. Il do the same with the HETO when it arrives.

Hi Cich-bro

I have swapped the standard tubes out of my heto 6ft T8 light for the phillips Aqua Relle pink.

Huge difference on my tank visibility of fish and their colours really improved.

Good luck in the search for the right light.
