I went to clean an internal power filter yesterday. I left the powerhead running and removed the sponge. Its a simple easy process. Suddenly the cord comes off the powerhead in the water with my hands in the tank. I got a tickle but what the hell? Has anyone had a cord just corrode/come free with no force at all?
Filter is about 2 years old.

It's cheap and nasty, what do you expect quality. Probably from China, throw it away, count your lucky stars and buy something decent.

Yeah its cheap and from China but my expectations were considerably higher. If the impeller cracks or something you can understand it but the cord falling off... thats not something I expected.
I've got a few Chinese filters that are way older and still going strong.

No, not yet... probably be happening sooner rather than later though.

I might have to replace the ones I have then. I remember someone on this forum carrying on about the otto internal filters being the bees knees, might give them a shot

I've used them before... still got 1 in action. They're not flash but the cord seems to stay on at least.

I don't think I've ever had that happen.

I think the worse was doing something with a power cord and finding nicks in the plastic to expose the wires. Possibly from a tank hood shutting on them but was never certain.

they are good, mind you I had one completely burn itself out after 2 years though, which I thought was a little odd.
