Auction Roundup 03/10/2017

I know you have all been waiting with baited breath for the latest Auction Roundup so here it is.

The PCS Auction 3rd Oct 2017 was attended by approx. 58 members and guests. There seemed to be a couple of new faces and a couple of new members also signed up which is very pleasing all round. Lots offered were again excellent though again there were a number of duplicated lots. I felt prices were still down a bit and some good bargins were had.. PLEASE NOTE: numbers and percentages in brackets refer to the previous auction and are provided for comparison.

Here are the stats for those who like them. A total of 142 lots went under the hammer from an original list of 149.  (There were a number (7) of scratched/lots withdrawn) Here is a break up of Lots by number and percentage of total. Again there were some Lots passed in, being three Fish lots where no bids being received or did not meet Reserve.

Type                                                    Number of Lots                                      % of Total

 Book/Mag                                                      1                                                    0.70

 Catfish                                                         11                                                    7.75

 Cichlids                                                        77                                                  54.23

 Non Cichlids                                              12                                                   8.45

 Other                                                         8                                                      5.63

 Plants                                                        29                                                  20.42

 Shrimp                                                      4                                                     2.82

 Snails                                                        0                                                      0.00

 Total Fish                                                 89                                                 62.68

 Total Fish & Catfish                              100                                                70.42

 Total                                                       142                                               100.00

* Sub-total of all fish – not part of overall total.

** All items not categorised as above.

Chichlids, Catfish and Cichlid Books/Mags, made up 62% (55% ) of Lots on offer and Non-Cichlids, Plants, Shrimp and Snails made up 32% (40% ) of Lots on offer. The remaining 6% was made up of Other items (Food, pumps, accessories etc.). For the second time since I have been doing the Auction Roundup Cichlids, Catfish and Cichlid Books/Mags has made up more than 62% of the Lots and exceeded Non-Cichlids, Plants, Shrimp and Snail Lots

Being a Cichlid Society I have included tables which are cichlid specific.

As a footnote, Congratulations to CloeyyMegan on winning first prize in the raffle – a great background piece donated by Aquotix – I scored the 2nd prize of a bucket of Sara Goldie pond flakes but imagine my surprise and disappointment when I got home and realised that it expired last month!

Apologies for the crocked formatting.

Hey Chris

Well done again on getting this data up. Always a popular thread.

The Borleyi unfortunately only went for $25, not the $252. I suspect we may have a Borleyi auction only next time if breeders were to get $63 per fish. :P

Mike

Victorian lots were a surprise. We thought they would have done better but that's the name of the game at auctions (plenty of great buys):

Yellow Belly Albert - 2 lots went for $45 & $35

Nubila - $20

Hippo Point - $20

Thereuterion - passed in

Victorians are like that though - breed easily so become readily available and after a while they're everywhere and no one wants them anymore. Shame because they are really cool fish and quickly become hard to source. The selection of vics available in the hobby at the moment is better than ever. If you're breeding these, hold onto them and wait a couple years - soon everyone will want them again ;)

Sorry about that people for the misleading information, I can only put it down to dyslexic/Homer Simpson fingers - I rechecked my list and yes quite a few errors on my part - I will do better next time.
