Planted or unplanted / low light (in which for me, anything with dimmable settings which I just find useful for algae control).

discus tank with community fish so not too bright. i have never been able to grow anything but algae, i even put duckweed in the tank as a nitrate filter but some of the tank residents got a taste for it and kept eating it all

Check out the Aquafresh NemoLight series. Aquotix/Vebas/morley aquariums sell them. Youre able to adjust the settings for different applications like make it dimmer, make it brighter, even the colour affects like adding more blue/red LEDS or having none at all.

Highly reccommended. 4FT version does my 6x2 more than adequately.

Be careful with the LED lights under a hood

Too true, shortened the life of a few I suspect running them hot under a hood.

I use a 6 foot light from make my led as that’s what was recommended in Aquarium life forum. I also run a surface aquarium fan behind the lights so there is good air flow under the hood.

Cheap option would be either a 4 footer where you will probably have dark corners or two 3 foot units.

I have a Nemo AquaFresh... Looks good and performs well but wish i'd spent a few dollars more on something with a better control function like the MicMol range.
