Hi guys,

had a small decorations pond in the back and gave it a little makeover.

Two plants from Aquotix and 3 locals from Bunnings.

After emptying all the contents including my 3 gold fish did the following...

1. Mixed potting mix and kitty litter (seen on another post in this forum - Thank you) and filled about 50mm

2. Planted pond Lilly in center, left local water grass (don't know name) from Bunnings, Right another local plant - then covered with pebbles and rocks from the pond.

3. Using two plant holders from Bunnings positioned 2nd plant from Aquotix and peppermint bush...

4. Majority of time spent on making it look nice - or trying at least.

5. Fill up with water (50% old water and 50% fresh treated water)

Took a while for the dirt to settle.. And buy the end of the day water was good enough to put gold fish back inside.

The pictures taken are 5 days later and the potting mix + kitty litter seems to be doing a great job. Plants look very healthy.

See how it looks in 2 weeks... before I do any more changes

Looks MINTOX!
Very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing. I would have ponds but the three things I have in the backyard like to destroy EVERYTHING :(

That is a very nice mini pond. I really like seeing original projects with a bit of improvisation. Fantastic!

OK,

so 2 weeks later the pond is doing great. Plants have been growing crazy. Have little algae problem but no algae eater would survive the cold.

Snails are great in ponds ive got millions of ramshorns in my ponds. Just got some pesky hair algae clinging to my floating plants that shall not be named.
pond is looking really good, I reckon they look even better in winter.

hi i was not actually talking about Iris's i was meaning to mention a different plant... if this plant comes from the Dianella genus then it's root system may (more then likely) break the pot and take over the pond (needs alot of maintenance to stop this) i bent 3 shovels the day before you posted this picture removing it from someones garden that had only planted 2 plants 1 year earlier... when i was removing it it covered 4m by 2m garden bed even when it only started with 2 plants and the roots bent the shovel as they have some big roots then a thousand little shoots will come off that and even wrap around other roots of other plants for stability lol one hell of a plant but mind you i planted some of the cuttings from the ladies garden in my garden that has nothing in it lol :) just a word of warning as that plant does look alot like the dianella genus plants :P

the plant spreads like a ground cover with new shoots coming off the root... hence why it filled up such a big garden bed from only 2 small cuttings that she had planted... yes by 2 plants i mean small cuttings like two pieces off a plant with a bit of the root still in tact .. :P
