Hi guys

Just wondering how oftern do you clean your ext filters

I understand you do not clean the media that much

But what about the fine pads at the top?

The reason i am asking is my new 6x2x2 set up has been running for about 2 weeks now just wondering when i should do a service biggrin.gif

Regards Cobby

Once a month

Would that be ok on abrand new set up?

I was just thinking that with a new setup maybe there would have been a lot more fine stuff in the water IE from the substrate

i wash the substrate b4 it goes in, i find i don't have that problem.
they are a low maintenance filter for a reason, not saying that it would hurt to clean out more often but i don't personnaly see the point.
when i set up a new filter on a tank i don't touch it till i know the filter is working

Whether I'm right or wrong. I dont usually clean my externals for atleast 6 months. Just so you know I typically provide additional filters so I'm not relying on the cannister.

i clean mine every 2 to 3 months and add extra media in them i think the aqua ones say every month in the book but i had some run for 6 and do ok on lightly stocked tanks and the light filter pad of top i dont bother washing just chuck it and put a new one in as its cheap and easy to cut
