At the moment at work, lm making bench seats/storage for around my bosses pool. lve been playing to make make own 5ft metal stand but been stuck for ideas to pretty it up abit and now doing these bench seats and seeing how good it looks lm thinking aboit going the same way with my stand.. bascially a metal stand with wood screw to the sides. just after peoples thoughts??

I think it would look pretty neat myself. Strength of steel and smoothness of timber.

I think cladding like this would look pretty nice, but maybe without the screw holes.

thats the bosses bench seat. but yeh messing around with a few ideas atm doors shall be included.

Nice idea. You obviously would bother with timber on the top as you wouldn't see it. Nicely made benches. Look mint

nah just use the foam on top and just wood on the sides and doors, l just gotta figure out a way to put wood on the doors but keep it all inline without any steel showing..

Why not make the doors overlap the cabinet frame and use cabinet hinges?

Thats a good idea but then you will still see bear metal on the edge of the doors.. l could make the doors on both sides instead of at the front like normal.?

Clad the while thing in wood with a cut out for the doors, then have the doors flush with the cladding

something ive considered is to have the steel frame like you say, then have a removable front on the whole length of the tank, maybe in two pieces.
instead of individual doors. That way also solves hinge issues....

lve consider this too and l think it maybe a winning option.

sliding doors/door,small thin aluminium channel possibly wiyh rollers/guideds flush with the front steel face of the bench,the timber glued/screwed on from the back and the finish would be to cut timber to meet top of bench flush and just off the ground for non interferance at the bottom.polish up some small aliuminium angle to finish off the top edge of the timbers on the doors ,done.

What if along the front of the tank you start from the edge where the steel frame is with a short length of wood. Then hinged onto that wood is a wooden door, that would cover the frame and still give you a door. All you would see is a small hinge spine at the front, which is what you would see on most stands anyway.

The other option is to have hinges at the top and have the "door" open upwards with a small catch to keep it open.

use a sliding door and alli will look good but but now we talkin $$$, trying to build it on a budget l thort about running wood down the leg but l wanna try keeping all the wood running all the same way.

The pic Alex hill posted use that exact design but cut down the middle so two pieces use them as L shaped doors hinged and the rear legs of the stand it will be seamless and go hinges/stand showing at all. Problem solved.

lol that would open so wide. my 5ft is in my study. it aint a huge room plus my big corner desk takes up half of it

Ok how bout use the same idea but have 1.5-2ft section in the middle that doesn't hinge but is removable. Same effect but smaller doors ??

get the hinges that are inline with the door, weld the hindges straight to the steel on either side. you dont even see the hinges that way nor the steel.

If space is an issue, make the entire front "flap" open, sort of like these cupboards:



There are hinged that you can buy that will lock the flap open, or a simple latch will do it.

Yeh thats abit like what knock said and is the way lm leaning towards.. it alright steel will be in by tuesdayand l will be starting the frame part of it. thanks for the idea and help fellas. l shall post photos as l go
