always in a tank with other non aggressive fish..
i've now experienced a death of my second EBJD....
i haven't actually found the other one it's just disappeared but it's in a tank full of tropicals and after taking rocks n ornaments out i can't find the second one
are they sensitive to anything at all or just really weak?
they are runts after all
this is killing me, i really like these fish & they keep dying on me for no apparent reason
water parameters are fine, jds are ment to be strong anyway
they're in a tank with tetras, silver dollers, a chelceus, rams & loads of bristlenoses
if anything they would die over a JD.. why the hell is this happening?

this thread has explained some things to me
people i'd suggest reading this before you go paying rediculess amounts for these fish.. they don't seem to be very strong.

Yeh they sound like a good challenge but one my pocket hasn't been willing to accept yet
Best of luck for your fishies.

I've read that they aren't as strong as normal JD's. We were on the verge of buying one a couple of months back but reconsidered when we read up on them, especially with what tankmates we were planning on putting it in with.
When we get our next tank, it will be top of the list....
I have to say re Rams - I've got one in my 6ft and it's in there now because it killed 5 other fish in a different tank - angry, nasty little thing it is!

I have had a similar experience as fishgal with Rams, and I would believe Rams are capable of killing a young EBJD, especially if you have female rams in the tank with the males.
I put 3 pairs of rams in my 10foot tank, 2 pairs laid eggs and after about 3 weeks I had one male left, even with all that space and places to hide they all relentlessly pursued, attacked and killed each other until only one male was left, probably the most agressive cichlid I have ever kept, though once the females were gone I was given a second male and I was able to keep the 2 males together peacefully.
Cheers
