What’s the restriction reason there (out of interest if they give one)?

Unsure to be honest. If it seems like it could adapt and cause harm to our water ways then its banned - its a grey listed species< so not illegal to won, just illegal to bring into the state.

Livefish post to your door and ive heard it skips a quarantine inspection? unsure how true that is, but it means you could get these posted?

I have a pair atm that have spawned twice in their planted tank since Christmas, once I've removed the ray pup I will be trying to breed them, very underrated fish. Definitely in my top 5.

Rodders - you should of tried to keep breeding them tigers mate. That would of been unreal.

That is disappointing you can’t bring them in. Such a great looking fish. Are they interesting to keep Jules?

I think so, ive always kept them and had them for many years.

Very primitive and curious ive found, they swim to the surface gracefully then explode with great force after breathing air back to the bottom, I can hand feed one of them and when food morsels are to large they will spin violently like crocs do.

Just keep the lids on very well, I've lost a couple due to carpet surfing, which is heart breaking. One of my favourite oddballs, and senagels remaining a manageable sixe means your average size aquarium is perfect for them, unlike a lot of the lower jaw poly species, reaching at least 18"+.

I remember 10 odd years ago when Vebas would have a tank with at least 20 of them in there! Ahhh the good old days, how fish keeping has changed........

They’re a very unique fish.

Jules - I’ve passed them on to a mate who is going to give breeding a crack, will probably get them back at some stage.

aquarium industries has them listed. steve at pet magic bibra lake gave me the link (aquariumindustries.com.au) click current stock and then download, u’ll get a list of everything they have, give pet magic or anywhere else that deals with aquarium industries a call with the code and get a price. like i said, the bichir is listed in stock but i dont know if the same restrictions apply with getting it to wa?

A mate is selling that one, it’s not a pure Senegal, pretty sure it’s senegal x delhezi.

Nice pick up mate! Great fish, bichirs are definitely one of the coolest aquarium fish to keep, just cover every little gap so he doesn't jump!
