#367861 Native Threatened And Endangered Fish Breeding

Posted by ice on 21 January 2021 - 02:59 PM

You would probably need some kind of scientific license in order to collect these fish otherwise its highly illegal and you would be facing massive fines. Also translocation of fish (even native ones) would require permission from fisheries department and a translocation permit done. I love your enthusiasm but unfortunately its not that simple.

Well youre screwed then if you want to run a canister with hidden pipes, unless you drill the tank for bulkhead fittings and plumb the canister up to them.

Cant go past Eheim for quality if you don't mind the expense. Some of their high end filters also have the heater built into the head which tidies up the tank very nicely. I would always go for higher than what is actually required. Best bet would be to go and visit a LFS like Aquotix and speak to the staff there and look at their range and find one that best suits your requirements.

To be honest unless you're very experienced with keeping fragile natives that are very fussy with water quality I wouldn't entertain the idea of taking them from the wild. Its not only illegal but you'll probably end up killing them which just sucks for everyone, most of all the fish.

#367013 Mary River Cod (Maccullochella Mariensis)

Posted by ice on 27 December 2018 - 11:52 AM

G'Day all,

If quarantine allows it (confirmed OK to bring in to WA), I may be shipping across a few captive bred and raised Mary River Cod (Maccullochella mariensis) for keeping in my outdoor pond.

Just gauging to see if anyone else would be interested in purchasing one or a few of these rare little beasties?

They will be roughly 5cm and will be priced around the $40 mark, not bad for an endangered species which would be a real privilege to keep!

Cheers!

Give Dave Wilson at Aquagreen a try if there's any species that you're interested in that inhabit the top end of Australia. He may be able to collect some for you.
