I couldn't attend the meeting for personal reasons, but one would assume that since most of the committee members have either watched or been involved in this discusion that they would place the topic on the meeting agenda.

given that most of the committee members have been involved in this discussion which exposes a group of fish that strongly appear to breach the current PCS club policy, if it is true and the subject was not discussed or placed on the agenda as stated here then the committee has failed in the responsibility they have each undertaken as representing the PCS on the discus issue.

Some may critisize me or other members involved in this discussion for not attending the meeting, however this is irrelevant, I am not a committee member nor do I normally attend meetings, but I am a club member of the club, who together with many other members has raised an issue regarding PCS policy breach.

As it stands a group of hybridised and line bred fish are still allowed to contraveine PCS policy, the fact that this breach has been left to continue doesn't reflect on me, it just reflects badly on those closely involved in creating and moderating our clubs policies.

G'day Den,

As most of the members that have an opinion on Discus did not attend the meeting it did not seem proper to discuss the subject. What was the point of discussing an issue if most of the contributors were not there to voice their opinions ?

Mark from Atlantis gave a very good talk on glass, glass cutting & making a small tank which he not only demonstrated but he also donated to the raffle.

Mark as many members already know has had a dispute with Customs recently over the "legality" of one of his fish he keeps at Atlantis. He was good enough to give us the run-down on what has happened & what is likely to happen in the future which will effect everyone that owns an aquarium.

If I remember correctly, as it was the meeting did not end until 10.30pm, by which time most members just want to go home.

I personally resent your comment "the PCS Committee has failed in the responsibility" .

Regards
Col

Issues such as this are normally first discussed at a Committee Meeting before being presented to the members if issues need resolving. We have not had a Committee meeting since the discussion began. It is on the agenda for the next Committee Meeting.

To say the PCS is ignoring the issue is simply not correct. This is only one of several matters that the PCS has taken on board in recent times. I will again remind everyone that we are all volunteers with other commitments and are doing the best we can under difficult circumstances. With a full complement of committee members this year we hope to cover as much as we can but it is all going to take time.

I completely and sincerely appologise Col, I could have worded that better, I added "on this issue" to the end of the sentence. I didnt mean to be critical of the club on all aspects, as you guys do a great job overall, given the above comments from members who attended the meeting it gave me reason to feel that this issue was being ignored.

Again another Sorry I thought the Committee meeting was also met at this meeting, so I take it all back blink.gif I'm glad the committee is taking a look at this and I look forward and interested to seeing the outcome.

Due to conflicting evidence and the ongoing investigation into the Genus Symphysodon the PCS has decided to maintain its current policy to recognise only the natural forms of the breed but will allow the continued selling of aquarium strains of Discus on the forum until the evidence is clear, definitive and accepted within the broader fishkeeping community.
