thanks " Peckoltia " for the pic of your male , they do look pretty much alike, with the same amount of vertical barring going right through the dorsal and colour patterning . maybe my fish might be a bit bigger is he is in a 4fter by himself and about 6 or so girls with him and he is also an agro little bugger himself. Dazz , mate , my mate has the lab. "yellow top mbambas " and his fish look similar ,grow a lot bigger , but ive already ruled them out. my main male is only about maybe 8-10cms , without putting a ruler beside him . thanks guys , at least we are getting somewhere with it.
cheers scott

Page 143 bottom left pic is a pretty close match. Labidochromis sp. 'mbamba' Ngkuyo Island
There aren't many mbuna that have that yellow edging on top of the dorsal.
What size are your mates Lab. 'mbamba' Harey? You say his are larger than yours. 'Mbamba' are considered dwarf mbuna and get to about 10cm max.
Another fish to consider is Cynotilapia afra 'chewere'. Similar colouring and body shape. The dark barring is quite thin compared to the light barring though. Whereas your fish has more uniform wide barring.
