Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone here is a rum connoisseur and knows of good bottle shops in Perth for top-shelf rums?
I particularly like Ron Zacapa, Dictador and Diplomatico. I am happy to buy online feom over east as well...
Thanks!

I usually have a few Captain Morgans on the weekend when I'm kicking back. Not top shelf, but it's good stuff

Yeah, also I quite like Sailor Jerry if just enjoying something not too pricey. Unfortunately I've become a hopeless rum snob of late and find myself seeking out ever more exotic drops. That being said, its amazing how at top shelf levels there are $100 rums that can easily beat $200 ones.

Thanks werdna, Ron Zacapa Solero 23 is one of the best!

Ha ha, yes well....

Actually some of Bundy's higher-end creations are supposed to be quite good. Haven't tried any yet, as I'm working my way through the Caribbean distilleries. So much to explore! ;)

Well, just placed a somewhat indulgent order at nicks.com.au... they certainly have an impressive range. Hopefully its all in stock and I get it soon. :)

I'm only just getting into rum, always been a straight up single malt scotch whisky man myself but i'm finding myself enjoying more of the top shelf rums. I may have to buy myself a really nice bottle and see how it compares on the rocks to a scotch of the same price range.

Well based on some initial reading and, err, research many of the best ones (bar one, yes Jason you picked the one) are all around $100 so you don't need to spend mega-bucks. The ones I bought on this little sp2nding spree are: El Dorado 12yr, Dictador 12yr and the mighty Diplomatico Exclusiva Reserva. The Ron Zacapa 23 is also up there with these three. Depends what style of rum you're into, but these four are a pretty formidable bunch... all around $100 a bottle which is great value considering what you can spend. The Rum Howler Blog is a great site for reviews and research, there are other good ones too.

I'll check it out.
I tend to keep away from anything Bundy, after a bad experience with Bundy OP.

Thanks

Havana club Cuban Rum is a favorite of mine.
The Havana club 15 is a beautiful smooth tipple but costs considerably more than Havana club 7 which is very nice.

My daughters bought me a bottle of The Kraken black spiced rum for my birthday last year and I've been addicted to the stuff ever since. Lovely and smooth, perfect straight with one ice cube :)   Around $60.00 a bottle.

Cheers, Doug

Yes the Kraken is a nice one, it was actually one the rums that started me on this journey. :) DFishkeeper, if you like the taste of dark molasses rum, also give Gosling's Black Seal a go... around the same price as Kraken and also rich and dark, but not spiced and not as sweet. Also Sailor Jerry is a nice spiced rum at $40-$50 (groovy label too :)).

Is that a WA distillery? I've heard rumours about them but have not seen/tried their stuff and couldn't remember the name. Thabks for the lead Cam, just found their website. I may have to do a trip to the Swan Valley this weekend. ;)
