All

I recently bought a second hand Aqua One Aquis 1250 Canister Filter and hooked it up for the first time tonight.

The unit does work but from what I can tell, it seems to be leaking from the base of the "in" and "out" hoses that connects to the unit.  I have spent several hours trying a few things but I I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.  The pressure on the outlet seems rather weak too.  Is it because of the leaks??

This is my very first canister filter and it is turing into a disastrous experience.

Is there anyone here experienced with Aqua One Canister Filter who can give me a help please?  I am happy to travel to your house if anyone has any spare time to help me out?

I live in Canning Vale so preferably someone who lives south of the river.

Any help / suggestion appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

seeing your located in canningvale why not pop into aquotix and ask for some help... if you need any new seals or rubbers they can prob help you out there too....

but for now make sure your hoses are cleaned out and possibly clean out the impellor and make sure media isnt blocked if its second hand

Hi Sschen.

I had a problem with my Aquis 1000 i bought second hand.  If the unit hasn't been run for a while, the seals perish. I replaced the top seal, and also replaced the primer plug, and it's been working fine ever since.  I'm not 100% sure you can buy hose seals, if not just replace both taps.

Taps are pretty cheap, there is a local store near me NOR that carries the biggest range of Aqua One spares I've seen. PM if you want the details.

Great filter though.

More than likely the seals as the guys mentioned, but also check the media if it doesn't look like the standard aqua one stuff in there.

I bought some extremely thick media foam which actually prevented the flow from going through the media causing a build up in pressure and leaking out. The seals were fine just way to much pressure.

Just incase its not the seals, take out a couple of  the filter media sponges and double check. If the media has been upgraded its something to be aware of.

Take the seals off and inspect them and see if they're dry/brittle/perished... if so, go to Aquotix (they're closed on Mondays) and replace them.

In the meantime, maybe trying cleaning the seals - warm water - to make sure there's no sand or grit and see if they soften; then lightly lubricate (the seals) with something non-toxic to fish - I've use a very light smear of olive oil before without any problems. Then refit the seals (making sure the unit's not over-packed with media), connect up and see how you go!

Good luck

Could possibly be the seals inside the head where the stems seal if the head is getting water inside it, or the taps. If the unit is old I'd replace them just to be on the safe side.

Aquotix can help you out :)

Thanks for the many suggestions.  I haven't had a chance to play with it since Sunday night but will look into the different suggestions on the weekend.  Hopefully it can be sorted without spending too much more on it.

If you go to a shop that sell Aqua One filters they will be able to get a replacent tap set for you. If they dont have any in stock the distributer on the east coast is normally pretty happy to express post them out. The taps should cost around $10-20, these will include all new seals
