Just like bobbyfish fry saver, quick to make and works a treat.

This one works a treat with low numbers of fry, say around 30 odd fry.
It's a 100mm stormwater cap from bunnings also I've seen them in 50mm.

Just cut the polystyrene as you like. Remeber to sand the polystyrene to stop it from braking up or you may end up with little bits floating around the tank.

Silicone the styrene to the cap and ya done. Add a suction cap to keep it in place if you like.

The mesh is stainless steel and safe in all water types. It's also smooth on the inside as well. It holds fry as small as Synodontis petricola.

Cheers
Scott

Nice work.

Good to see a few different designs.

Hopefully someone gets some use from both of our DIY posts

Thanks,
Bobbyfish

That's an awesome idea. Holes look pretty small though - is there enough water flow?

Great water flow, I've ran air stones on the out side as well as filter outlet flows and they both work well. I've found no problems with them at all.

I use sieves as tumblers for my Kilesa but I've never tried them as fry savers. They would work well.

I went into Bunnings looking for these storm water caps on the weekend and asked the staff which they had no idea and didnt have any of these at all.

Does anyone in WA know where i can get some of these from as i want to make some of these up.

Here's a link to what they are. Maybe pop in to a plumbing shop and ask for them or order them in. Bunnings here in Vic has them, maybe the WA bunnings can order them in for you.

I also bought some from Bunnings balcatta, they were with the storm water pipes, about half way down the aisle 2nd shelf from the bottom I'd say?
Had lots few weeks back.

For those down my way I found these vent cowls at Bunnings Rockingham yesterday, amongst the plumbing supplies (down the aisle where the water pumps and whatnot are, not at the back with the stormwater pipes and fittings).. Pretty sure they werent there 2 weeks ago.. around $6 each
