Was looking at the petricolas the other night...room and tank unlit but using flashlight. In addition to noticing the golden color of the eyes it appeared that all 5 petricolas had a white dot...possibly slightly elongated in shape and not big (about the size of smaller dots) on their foreheads...it stood out visually from the rest of the body. Has anyone seen this on catfish, in general, or on petricolas specifically? Am curious as to what this is.

Posted this question on planetcatfish...the African catfish forum. Apparently many (all?) catfish have this spot. Indeed it is a sensing device....ala nightvision if I am understanding correctly. Thanks to all of you who viewed the question and hope this response helps any who also wondered.

Hey that is very interesting if true.. I always assumed that catfish navigated at night using their lateral line system.. So this spot could be like a remnant of a third eye/pineal gland system that somehow picks up low amounts of light??
Must have a closer look at my multipunctatus lol
