So heres a step by step guide for building a hang on siphon for easy water changes smile.gif

Parts needed
2x 20mm elbow with thread
2x 20mm elbow
1x 20mm ball valve tap
1m length of 20mm PVC pipe
1x threaded hose fitting
PVC glue

Step 1.
Cut pipe into 4 sections like this

Step 2.
Glue small section to both un-threaded elbows

Step 3.
Use the 2 same size lengths for the tap section and glue in place

Step 4.
Glue the tap section into the smaller elbow section

Step 5.
Take your threaded elbow and glue it to the bottom of the tap section

And screw in your hose fitting

Step 6.
Glue the other threaded fitting into the last length of PVC pipe and glue into place

That's it ready to go, just plug in your hose and your set to go smile.gif

Or you can whack one up with black retic tubes, which are threaded so you don't have to glue them. You might need some thread tape for the seal, though.

If you want to pay a little extra the brass fittings are the way to go, you can service/re seal and replace the oring's and they make a good connection. You'll have to replace your hose end as well smile.gif

Cheers

brass ones are good and will last for ever but they can jam easily and be a real pain in the a## to release, the hose link ones are so easy to use and super strong. both are a good option.

We made one up with the black retic a couple of weeks ago. A bit more expensive, but no glue and is very unobtrusive in the tank. Water changes are a dream.

Once the lines full it will auto start when you connect the hose and open the valve.

What do you mean by when the lines full?? (Sorry I'm asking so many questions I'm only new to the hobby and really have no experience with any of this!!)

When the siphon contraption is full of water a siphon starts.
To fill it with water initially connect one end of a hose to the siphon and the other end to a tap. Turn the tap on to fill the line, once the line is full close the valve, disconnect the hose from the tap, open the valve and water will siphon from the tank.
To refill the tank close the valve, connect hose back to tap, open valve and allow tank to fill. Once the tank is full, close the valve, which will remain full, ready to siphon next time...
