Scientific Name: Hemitilapia oxyrhynchus
Pronunciation: Hemi-til-ar-pee-a ox-e-ring-ker-us
Trade Name(s):
Distribution: Lake-wide distribution.
Habitat: Shallow sandy areas near Vallisneria beds.
Diet: Aufwuchs.
Sexing: Males are blue with green, red & yellow flecks through the body & caudal.
Females are silver with the juvenile spots.
Maximum Size: 22cm
Temperature: 24 to 26c
pH: 7.5 to 9.0
Water Hardness: 300-400ppm
Availability: Not Readily Available in Oz.
Comments: Hemitilapia oxyrhynchus have an interesting feeding habit, they will scrape aufwuchs from Vallisneria in a sideways fashion.
