Just ordered my new tank today from aquotix. the tank is 6x2x2.5 with cabinet.
I am planning on adding a sump later so have asked for it to be built with 2 overflows and one return. at the moment I am getting these at 32mm each. the return will have a vortex nozzle on it. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on these sizes.
Also interested in peoples ideas on sumps, should I buy a pre fab one or should I build it myself, return pump size, sump size and design, refugium etc

I like to go double size of the overflows, so if I'm using 19mm outlets my overflows are in 40mm, just in case you have any blockages etc :)

If they are drilling holes for you get 2 for you outlets, heaps better flow control if you have one at either end or 2 in the middle facing out..

Sounds like it's gonna be an ace tank mate, what's going on it?

The location is dependent on the room you have around your tank but i recommend having 3 holes drilled for your overflow. One for a fully submerged overflow so it is quiet, a second to take the left over flow that the first cant take (youll never match the return pump with the siphon so the second overflow remains quiet as the water attaches itself to the inside wall of your pipe and rifles down rather gurgling down) the third as and emergency overflow incase any of the pipes get blocked.

Put all of these behind a box overflow. And according to the Bernoulli equation youll achieve about 7000 litres per hour at 1.0m of head in a suberged siphon environment. And silently too.

Any submerged siphon will work similarly but the location of your overflow will determine the over all look of your tank. Put it at one end of the tank, fully across one end and your sorted. Buy a tunze 5000lph pump and its as silent an overflow youll ever get.
