How do I get these suckers to get it on. I had General bristlenose in the tank which consistently bred but now the peps won't. They are the only fish in the tank besides from a few small bristlenose and a fighter who does his own thing. Is there something I should do to get the breeding. I bought them as a breeding trio, one male 2 females. I tried letting the water get filthy for a few weeks without doing anything then gave it a major clean to make them think it's rain season but that didn't work. (Read to do that online).

We need more information on your tank:

  • Tank Size?
  • Caves?
  • Behavior? Is the male spending time in/around a particular cave?
  • Water Params:
    • Temp
    • pH
    • Hardness

Adding a temperature fluctuation combined with the major water change can also help promoting a spawn. I was doing that to get my peps started but now they breed regularly without it.

Temp is 26
Ph is like 7.6
Hardness is 440
Tank is 200l
Lights on for 10hours a day with little movement In room during the day
Males hangs out in one cave but comes out at night and sometimes switches caves
I have a feeling he might be too big for the caves as he is like 14cm- any info on where to get larger ones or where to get slate to make them would be great.

I had a few in there for his choice. The females were hiding in the caves I guess that wasn't good. Will give that a go thanks for the help.

+1 with temp at 28. You can drop it down to 27 with a big water change as well to help simulate their natural environment.

Cave size shouldn't be an issue at all, they love a tight fit. But definitely reduce the number of caves. I like having the cave close to other driftwood so that the females will hang around naturally.

I've never had an issue with lighting effecting breeding but that's just me. Plenty of people online on both sides of the lighting argument.

Not really ai :/ haven't been trying that much and the other day a female may have gotten stuck in a wave maker and died because it kept turning on and off so she must have gone in when it went off :( rip....
