Hi guys,

My name is Jarrod, have been reading these forums for a little while but just made a profile so thought I'd say hi :)

Currently got a 4 foot tank with some fairly young americans in it - female jag, male carpintas and a male firemouth, will be upgrading their tank in the next few months as they will outgrow this one. Also have a 180L tank I've been running as a planted tank but just about to clear it out and get it up and running as an african tank.

My housemates also in to his fish so there's several other tanks around the house that I get involved with

In the middle of rescaping my tank at the moment so I'll wait before putting up any pics!

Not too sure yet, still to do a bit more reading before I decide haha, I am new to african cichlids so not clear on what goes together etc. With the bigger fish in my main tank I wanted more of a community aquarium setup, and I have done with the planted tank but the fish I had aren't nearly as interesting as africans :)

Welcome Jarrod!

As per the talk that Rovik did a while back, there's no reason you shouldn't have Africans in your planted tank .... or some plants in your African tank... I have Malawis and in with them are Vallisneria, Amazon swords, some common Java Fern and a couple of others.

Good luck and enjoy!

I thought so too but the last couple pics once the plants had grown around the rock looked pretty cool.

Malawiman that tank looks amazing!

For the african tank I won't go heavily planted but probably just add a few long bladed plants like Vallisneria for some colour, have done the same in my american tank with the plants still in a pot and the pot buried in the substrate so they cant get to the roots, seems to work fine.

I was thinking of making the 4ft a planted tank once I move the jag etc out of it and perhaps get some Salvini for it, have heard they don't mess with the plants too much but that was just from one source so don't know how true it is haha. Got exams coming up but once they're done I'll have like 6 weeks to get in and do some more with my tanks, will be looking in to it a bit more then

Cheers man, been loving it hey really chilled friendly group. Only other person I'd talk fish with before is my housemate, now I've got a practically unending source of reading and conversation haha. Checking the forums is a good break when I'm at work or studying too!

I totally agree Jarrod, so many other forums might answer your questions but none of them have the chilled out and sometimes humorous posts of PCS.
