Hello,

I'm currently going through the process of killing off the things i've introduced due to my non existent quarantine protocols.

I'm taking out the hydra with panacur 25 and now there's a significant population of mites. They're small and brown in colour. Anyone know if they're going to be a problem to my fish (rasboras and otos) or my plants? Or any suitable treatments for killing them off? Took a picture with some magnification, they have eight legs and there are a lot of them.

Cheers

Andrew

Seed shrimp/ostracods I think.

Mmm, not sure, really looks like a mite: https://australianmuseum.net.au/Uploads/Images/8825/Mite.jpg

I'll have to try to get a better picture. Question is whether they're a threat to anything or just a harmless addition to my little ecosystem.

Almost certainly not Ostracods. There are quite a few free-living mites that will sometimes be evident if you are feeding wild caught daphnia. As a general rule these will be harmless. I would be keen to see a sharper photo. BTW, the link does not work.

Syd.

Ah, just my luck, a sneaky space got in that hyperlink somehow: https://australianmu...s/8825/mite.jpg

I'll try for a better picture tonight, working with mobile phone camera hooked up to a pocket microscope.
