Hi all,
Just asking a few questions for a friend who is having problems with his pond atm. Any idea what the life expectancy of the UV globe is ie. becomes less/non efficient after how many months/years? Also, assuming the filter and sterilizer are working efficiently and all other parameters have been checked, any reason why the algae is blooming? The pond is approx. 3500l and the unit running in it is an Pondmax UVC filter pf80000uv. Thanks.

Depends on the algae, i dont think UV has any effect on string algae.

If the flow through the UV is too high it won't have an effect as the exposure time is not long enough. Higher flow combined with an old lamp could lead to decreased effectiveness.

They say to replace the UV lamp after 12 months as it will drop off in effectiveness by that stage.

Hey andrea.

I bought a uv light 2 years ago from a discount table at vebas. It is large does around 12000 litres max and i have a 1200l pump running with it. I havent had to replace the lamp yet ( touch wood) and my 1800l pond is crystal clear!

The globes should be good for 9-12 months depending on brand, usage etc.

Check the uv after dark to see if it's working, you should be able to see a slight glow at the ends of the unit.If it's still working then it's probably past it's use by date.cheers steve
