Scientific Name: Dimidiochromis kiwinge
Pronunciation: Dee-midd-e-o-cro-mis kye-win-gee
Trade Name(s): None
Distribution: Lake-wide distribution.
Habitat: Sandy areas
Diet: Small cichlids.
Sexing: Males have a blue/green body.
Females are silver with a green tinge through body & a black stripe running the whole body length.
Maximum Size: 35cm
Temperature: 24 to 26c
pH: 7.5 to 9.0
Water Hardness: 300-400ppm
Availability: Rarely Available in Oz.
Comments: Not only does Dimidiochromis kiwinge prey on small cichlids, but they will eat anything they can in their "raids". Their behavoir is similar to that of Lepidiolamprologus elongatus of Lake Tanganyika.
They can be seen hunting "Usipa" Engraulicypris sardella and jumping in the hundreds out of the water.
