No I haven't seen the Jebo, only photos. Good luck with whichever you choose, let us know how that marine setup is going smile.gif
Maybe in a few months time you can give some feedback on the filter you've chosen? biggrin.gif

i was told the Fluval FX5 was rated at 3500 lph when it is rated at 2300 lph ? and another web page says its 1500 lph and some one told me they are 2500 lph so how could it be rated for a 1500 lt tank and could any one coment on what they realy are ? i whent for the aqua one 2400 witch is ment to be around 2400 lph with a 3 mtr head and it came with media unlike the Fluval FX5 and the pump motor is at the bottom so they are no good for sand and the aqua one was cheaper but didnt have some of the cool featurs witch where not needed. i would of liked the jebo 950 but wasnt sure at the time if they where any good but i know some one who uses the jebo 950 and he recons they are great so the next filter i go for will be a jebo 950

Hi, Paul from morley aquariums here using tywonreefs username (forgot mine). Just one small thing to watchout for when buying online electrical gear (lighting, pumps, filters etc.). MAKE SURE IT IS AN AUSTRALIAN APPROVED ITEM & HAS THE CORRECT ELECTRICAL APPROVAL TICK. There are many items appearing online (particularly lighting) that are being imported direct from asia & do not have the Aussie approval on them, many are only 220v & can fail in a power surge. I checked a light unit for a guy the other day & when I pulled of the back cover the wires were all just soldered & then covered in the cloth tube - no waterproofing at all & guaranteed to burn out or even cause a fire. This definitely has not been approved. There are also canisters (inc. Eheim) & pond pumps that are on the incorrect voltage or have incorrect hz on the impellers. These will usually fail pretty quickly. With Canisters & pond pumps you can just check the plug type, if it has been changed it is not approved. Online can be a great source of savings & alternative products, but remember to support you LFS if you want to keep us around, we are not making millions & most of us are genuine fish keepers like you whose hobby has become a business.

Reviving an old thread...which I only just stumbled across!

Ok the Fx5 is rated as (according the box ours came in!)

Pump Output 3500l

Filter Circulation 2130l/h

For aquariums up to 1500L

Hope this helps :lol

(Blackcats)
I have always used Fluval. Never had any problems and they are silent.
I have a 403 thats been running for 16 years without missing a beat and I bought it 2nd hand. Also have a 104 and 304.
Recently purchased a new tank set up that came with a Jialu brand. What a rattler. :!: Its now back in the box.

Regards, hk

Harry

Does anyone have views based on their experience on the best (criteria: 1) filter performance, 2) easy of dis/assembly, 3) noise level, 4) parts availability, 5) warranty, 6) ease of cleaning, 7) other) INTERNAL filter for tanks between 200-300 litres? Or does that size tank really require an external unit?

Many thanks

Hi
The thing I have found with most brands is that they always list the maximum flow rate.
If you check the specs on the box it usually givesa flow rate depending on head height...ie the maximum height to have the spray bar situated.
So with that in mind you need to take into consideration the height of your tank, and check out what the
minimum flow rate is for that particular filter. wink.gif

QUOTE (dazzabozza @ Apr 14 2007, 12:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Gday

I'll be looking at buying some filters for my new two 6x2x2 tanks.

I was wondering what's the brand/type of choice? Ehiem and Aquaone seem to be well known brands.

I'll probably go external cannisters for ease of access instead of internals. I have a WEIPRO cannister on my 5ft at the moment. Even though it was very well priced it's also quite noisy at times.

Cheers,
Darryl

You might like to try the Heto brand. I also have an Eheim and I would buy either of them again. They are very similar noise levels (the noisiest part is the waterfall in the tank). Pricewise I got both from our friends at Aquotix on Bannister Rd. and the price was $260 for the Eheim 2217 and $139 for the Heto Neo-501. The Heto is marginally more fiddly but otherwise the only thing that separates them is the price. I love the Eheim and the Heto equally. The Eheim is looking after my 5 foot outdoor cichlid tank and the Heto is easily looking after my 4 foot indoor cichlid tank.

fluval fx no wuckin furries it will do the job with ease go see pacco at vebas or your lfs and ask. dont waste your time filtration is very and i quote very important ,you can never ever have to much filtration ,,,trust me ..ive learnt from the past that not enough filtration can be very distressing . once the fluval is up and running your pretty good for at least 6 months depending of course how much you feed and how many fish .eg i feed 3 times a day if not me the missus while im at work and i keep 27 lfairly large geos plus 30 or more large bristlenose constantly breeding and dont have any problems ....a water change every two or three weeks and all good . i hope this has helped a little regards dom

Gday LL

I managed to find some suitable filters (would be worried if I didn't since the thread was created in April '07 wink.gif).

I haven't dealt with the Heto first hand so can't really comment on it too much with the exception of the build looks quite similar to the Weipro I had.

Most of my filters I use are Eheim mainly do to availability of parts, low noise and reliability. I've got a handful of Aqua One filters too.

I too are looking at a decision to make i currently have 2 eheims 2217 running on my 6x2x2.5 and they no longer run at capacity i have no idea how old they are as there second hand.
Now i have been looking at Fx5 - eheim 2180 - 2080 or replace the two 2217's. I have messy fish and can get crowded from time to time.

All ideas and opinions greatly appreciated

is a flow rate of 6 ideal? if so means for my 800l tank ill need a filter/s 4800lph

cannister filters are a different kettle of fish, eheims are rated very different to most other cannisters.
