Yes the small center brace was left on for maximum support until silicone has hardened.

No Jules haha.

Yeah Anka ill be putting the majority of my bigger fish in there first and leaving the rays on their own in the tank they are in now so I can feed them up.

This will eventually be there home until I buy a house and go bigger.

Bad news. Base cracked. Took a chance with this one as it was only going to cost me $260 to get it done. Hence the test fill.

Talked to Paul and Troy this arvo. Not sure what the next step is. But may replace the base with some thicker glass. Unsure as of yet.

Anyway, worth a try.

The shell is 10mm. I knew it was to thin but as the water level was only going to be 50cm I thought I'd have a crack..... And crack it did.

Clive learnt my lesson in the past man. I lost a pup when a second hand 6x2.5 gave way at the front. So I took precautionary measures internally bracing and strapping top then test fill. I was a bit pissed at first. But I would much rather it happen now compared to when it's got stock in it!

Well that's it better now then if you had it filled with fish. Did it hold for long or pretty much cracked straight away?

Probably 2.5-3 hours I was out. Came home to water coming out of the shed. Although decent sized cracks, it didn't drain to quickly. Was still two thirds full and leaking slowly so I syphoned the rest out.

Jeez, I wonder if there was a little splinter crack somewhere,, and got its start from there.
Really it still should hold no worries.
Put a straight edge on the ground,,, if the ground has a hump in it, then that would be the problem.

damn shame Sam, As I mentioned when we spoke I think it needs a 12mm base. In the early years I did a couple or 3  tanks 2m or so with 10mm bases, it was a shocking run & all cracked (I know there are tanks out there that are this big that haven't, but all the ones I did broke, possibly just bad luck).

Since then any tanks over 6' automatically get 12mm bases & I heve never had an issue. The fact that this was 1100 wide as well means it really was 'under engineered'. As buccal mentioned, a slight dip or hump anywhere on the base & bang goes the tank. As a second hand unit it may also have had a few scratches, again these can lead to failure with only the slightest base variation (like the princess & the pea, no amount of poly padding can make up for any lumps).

It is a total bugger & I am pleased you tested it first. A replacement 12mm panel would cost $400 (special price), I am sure Troy can help you fit it, just slice out the old base with some fishing line & remove all the silicone prior to installing. Get the new base with 2-3mm gap all around, place the tank over it & pump silicone into the gap. When dry, trim all excess & replace internal base frame. Good as new.

Good luck with it mate & if I can help in any way, let me know.
