Quick video of my Gymnothorax.

I've always wanted one of these guys and was lucky enough to find one a while ago.

Cheers

Ronny.

That's a hot fish,, looks like a smallish one to, so must have been a few going around lately,,, because of perths state at the moment with fisho interest, it's possible these never get offered to Perth and go straight to east where there's no messing around.

Given their little home to be secured owned territory and happily hidden away to come out whenever safe,,,, they should make a great edition oddball tankmate for a tank with rays.

Maybe with astaxanthin and other food boosting body colors, that yellow could even become more vivid.

A beautiful little fish in a perfect set up with fish in superior health,, is what I look at every time I see your pics of your fish Ronny,,, I see you carefully choose what you keep and master perfection every time,, then your able to show it of with again awesome perfection with photography or as good as it gets...... Only bad thing I can say, Is I don't get to see enough of your pics and fish sometimes when you go quite for a while,,,,, dedication is second none,,, I have to say this to make sure you feel you have credit for all this. :)

I might be able to source a few more small ones soon. If you're interested, I'll try and get some sent over there before they're advertised here ;)

Thanks!  :)

He's a lot longer than he looks. Most people dont believe how long he is till he comes all the way out.  He's about 40cm now and was one of only three that came to Sydney.  The other two were bigger ones.

At the moment he has his own tank that he temporarily shares with a few culls hehe.

I try to pick nice fish worth taking photos of so the two hobbies go hand in hand :)

I feed him every 3-4 days or whenever I see him and he looks hungy lol.

He snacks on the culls when he's hungry but if theres no culls in there, he comes out of his cave when he sees me if he's hungry.

Very interesting little guy. Full of character and curiousity.

Bloody cool little pet you've got there mate! Can you tell us more about the parameters for keeping this little dude? I've always wanted to keep a nice bright eel so may take you up on that offer if you manage to secure some.

Regards,

Just so you're aware, the price will be around 500-600 each.   I got mine for $550.  It was cheaper as it was part of a group buy.

So what's the minimum tank size would you suggest Ronny ??,, based on its full size that is,, I'm side guessing that they may grow to fast to consider keeping it in a smaller tank temporarily.

They aren't a large species reaching an average of 100cm.  It sounds big but they are quite thin.  Not as bulky as the big marine ones.

I have my one in a 70cm tank and he really only uses half of it where his cave is.  Occasionally he'll wonder around looking for food but if I keep him well fed he tends to stay in the cave.

Minimum sized tank I would recommend for one is the length of the eel you have.

A mate of mine had a big one in his 8 footer and it mostly stays in his pipe only coming out to feed.  He recently put in in a 3 foot tank and it seems just as comfortable.

I got mine end of last year and haven't noticed much growth.  He eats a lot and is often bulging at the stomach but he's only thickened up more than anything so I don't think the growth rate is too fast.

I keep this guy in a 70cm tank.  Very simple setup with an Eheim pick up and a sponge filter with a few Marine Pure balls under the pick up and sponge filter.

He has a rock stack that he hides in on each end but only uses one.

The tanks kept at 28 degrees.  As for parameters Im not too sure what they are now as I haven't checked since I put him in there but the PH was 8, KH was around 12.  I use Seachem Tang Buffer with each water change and add a tablespoon of marine salt once a month.

Interesting, I would have thought their size and growth would be like a salty one.

Was told this guy wouldn't last in freshwater.

A year later with me (3 years prior) still going strong :D
